New to the group. I recently bought a 2014 Tacoma base model. It didn’t come with a back up camera. But a friend of mine gave me one off his 2014 before he traded it in. The wiring is in the tailgate. But I plug it in and get nothing. Someone said check the yellow audio/video plug in the back of the factory radio. I did that today and there is not one there. And there is no place for a audio/video plug in the radio. There is a open space for a plug but not the audio/video. Can anyone give me any insight as what I need to do?

My '15 base 4cyl Taco didn't have a camera, but I had success with buying the cheapest one on Amazon, plugged it in and had an image. Any chance the the camera you were given is broken? There is a good write up buried somewhere within this forum that shows how to install one in a Taco that was never wired for one, but it seemed that the general consensus was that all of the "late" 2nd Gen Tacos were prewired.

Yup I did the same thing it was like $50 and plugged right in. I’m assuming if OPs wiring is there up to the tailgate it’s an issue with the camera

I'm not sure all headunits are capable of display.

Hopefully someone will be able to chime in on that

Thanks for your guys info. It goes in the morning to have the remote start wired in so I’m gonna have the tech check it out and see what I need to do. The camera may have went bad or something. But everything I’m reading is saying about the yellow audio/video plug and I don’t see it anywhere’s on mine.

I have a 2014 base model non-JBL non-NAV head unit. I also added a backup camera. I ordered a OEM Toyota camera off eBay. It plugged right in and worked like a charm without any other modifications. I wonder if your camera is busted.

No need to be sorry. The pigtail harness in your tailgate will just plug into this camera once you put it in place IIRC. Throw the truck in reverse before you button it all up to test it there you have it. Good luck

Did you check if the plug underneath the rear bumper is plugged into the tailgate? I had the exact same thing, 2014 base Tacoma no back up camera. $20 camera from eBay, plugged it into the tailgate and nothing. Then I realized there was a (factory?) disconnected plug, and voila it worked!

Not all 2014s are prewired. Most are prewired at the tailgate but only some have the full harness running to the radio. I believe that if you can see the 4 wires running from the tailgate to the cab, you are good to go. If there's only one wire, then not prewired. Personally, not worth the costs of sourcing the harness. I prefer just buying a cheap aftermarket 12V camera with rca outputs to an aftermarket radio. There's nothing special about the OEM radio or camera to warrant the insane pricing. OEM even makes it difficult to hook up with aftermarket HU's by equipping Tacomas with a 6V tailgate camera vs. the common 12V.

Mine was like this too. Prewired in the tailgate but not to the head unit. I ended up buying the pop n lock camera and installed that with the lock.
