    Psychology.

They know that the new design will take some time to grow on us.

I hated the 2nd Gen Tacoma in '05, and wasn't crazy about the Tundra facelift in '03.
I still don't care for the 2nd Gen Tundra.

The new design is coming and people know it. Right now, sales are hurting because people are holding out for the '14.
Toyota reveals it now, and half of those currently holding out for the '14 will be scared into buying the '13 while they're still available.

They may also make it a mid-year release and push the '14 to dealerships in July.

I loved the 2gen Taco facelift. I didn't like the sizelift. I want this sheetmetal on a truck the size of a 1st gen.

The 2gen Tundra, 5gen 4Runner, and new Taco facelift all look like ass. I hate to say it, but Toyota has lost their shit with recent styling. The Camry and Corolla are bland enough to succeed (which they basically need to be, so mission accomplished), but everything else in ToMoCo's lineup looks like a Highlander variant.

Frankly, when it comes to styling, Ford is beating their ass these days.

The new Corolla is actually pretty cool.

Depends how you define it. I have no problem with the bland styling. It's an econobox.

It does lag current competition in NVH though...they ride rough, they're loud, and wind/road/engine noise are absurd. The drivetrain is unchanged from the previous gen, so it's the same ol' 1.8L 4cyl and four speed (four speed! In 2013!) transmission. It gets great mileage but it gearhunts like a motherfucker. I love this review:

    http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2012/04/corolling-in-the-deep/

Perfectly accurate and entertainingly written. I love my 2003 Matrix for the fact that in over 200,000 miles it has never needed a repair and still gets ~33 highway MPG. There's a lot to be said for a car that never breaks.

Just realize, it's not an incredibly comfortable or stylish way to transport yourself.

That. I see no reason why we need it and a Camry.

Are we really supposed to take the Yaris seriously if we want a compact car? Or is this Toyota trying to not-so-subtly push us all into one of their five Prii models? Because as big as that fucking thing is, they're basically offering two midsize models.

But you're right. It looks better at least.

Toyota has always had two small-ish models... Corolla/Yaris, Corolla/Echo, Corolla/Paseo, Corolla/Tercel.... Corolla/Celica (and I hesitate to include the "sporty" model, but honestly, the pre-Tercel Celica was simply Toyota's version of the Datsun 210 and not a particular performer... I often heard it referred to as a "fat girl's car")

If the Corolla is getting as large as it appears, I suspect that they are prepping for (or perhaps releasing in 2014) a hybrid Corolla.

Back around '04, Toyota indicated that they had rough plans to have a 100% hybrid fleet by 2012-2014, and with the new hybrid Avalon, they've covered that on all models except the "full frame" trucks/SUVs, Corolla, and Yaris.

This is similar to the styling used when the Rav4 grew in '06 prior to the hybrid release.

Yeah, but the smaller of the two was always a subcompact. They don't really have one of those anymore...the Yaris is but compact.

Either they want us to go to Scion, or vehicle creep (and fatter America) is just winning out. Not sure which.

^^its all about upcoming regulations that Toyota must meet. As an auto manufacturer their lineup must average a high enough mpg, so they produce more and more small models o bump I up the company's mpg.

As far as the Tundra goes I like all the photos leaked and am looking forward to seeing it today.

It's cool, but the front looks ALOT like the previous generation...other than that, I like what I've seen with the webcast.

Looks like same 3 power trains and transmissions according to what he said...

    No diesel, no 8speed trans.

It's alright. I like everything but that grill. For some reason I'm reminded of a fat chick with braces when I look at the front... Or a parrot fish... I dunno. Not a fan of it. Everything else is cool tho.
