I may have missed it but have you checked the ignition fuses (IG1 and IG1 No2) in the interior fuse box for power with the key on?

Everything in the engine compartment checks out. I'll double check it in the morning as well.

The scan tool does have power.

Excellent. Thank you for the info. It might take me this evening to digest it and I'll attack things in the morning. Again, much appreciated!

The transmission won’t come out of park?

Correct. Locked in park. I can use the release button and get it into al the gears and it's a clean shift / slide feel through the gear. No notchy or sloppyness if that makes any sense. The gauge on the dash recognizes what gear it is in and the key won't come out unless it is in Park.

I’m not sure but isn’t there an interlock under the dash above the brake pedal that may have somehow unplugged itself?

There is a plunger type "switch" called the Stop Light Switch, at the bottom of the brake pedal that was replaced. But a note here is that the brake pedal feels packed when I try and push the pedal...as if it is under pressure. Thoughts? I am not sure about an interlock, but I can research that further if need be. Thanks again Steves104x4.

The shift interlock is controlled by the Shift Lock Control ECU on the shifter itself.

Did it get stuck in part at the same time it wouldn't start?

Does the shift indicator in the center console have a light and does it work?

When I stopped all was fine. When I went back to start it an hour later, crank, no fuel, would not come out of Park no matter what I tried. The light in the instrument panel is lit up and reads the gears correctly. I do not believe the light on the center console lights up. As well, the key won't come out unless it is in Park.

PS I can go check for the shifter light function.

There is no light in the center console? That’s weird

That's why I was interested if the IG1 and IG1 No 2 fuses have power, the same leg of the ignition switch feeds those as well as some of the powertrain management. I'm not seeing anything else in common aside from body grounds.

There is a light bulb on the bottom left of the shift lever, but it does not light up. Also, tach does not move when cranking.

No, not before it stopped running. BUT, I just opened it up to clean everything a couple of days ago and it was dirty as SH**. worked pretty thoroughly to carefully clean every bit of it carefully. Electrical cleaner for the harness and contact areas were cleaned as well. One of my thoughts was it was not resting in the Park position as it should because of all the $1 McDonald coffees, cream and sugar that never made it down the hatch.

For my own knowledge, I would like to test the various harnesses on the shifter, if I knew the tests that should be performed. My thoughts (which are not always accurate, obviously), is that that one component (or the shifter's position) not signaling the computer that it is in Park or Neutral, could cause all of this in itself. BUT, on the dash, the lights for Park, R, N,1,2,3 light up accurately & as well, I can ONLY remove the key when it is Park. So something is reading the gear selection accurately.

But is there more than one signal the leaves the shifter (like one that goes to the ECM)? I have no ca$h to bet on this one. I'm saving it for the last round! And dammit, I hope that is soon.

Well, I’d open it back up and make sure everything is properly connected

I believe that only lights up when the tail lights are on.
I'm trying to eliminate things that the shift interlock and PCM have in common as we will likely find the issue since both happened at the same time.

    That’s what I’m doing.
J4/J5 connector seems to be a common.
I’m with you, maybe it’s a ground issue?

So the scan tool has power, but does it connect normally & will it read codes from the ECU?

No, he says it fails half way through the scan.
