Hello, I've become aware that my 2015 Access Cab 4 cyl MT is already wired for a back up camera, just missing the camera part in tail gate.
Now that these are deemed mandatory safety devices, I thought I'd call my Toyota dealer and check the price of a 86790-04021 which seems to be the part for 2014-15 trucks. Thinking that Toyota might make them a reasonably-priced addition. Honestly, I can't believe they wired the whole thing and installed a capable head unit, just left off the camera. Anyway, the parts guy tells me $705.00
I said you must be kidding.
Has anyone out there tried the ebay versions for $29.96 or $44.89? They are pretty obviously not Toyota parts but they reference the Toyota part number, and even use the term OEM.
    Just curious.
I'll probably try one of these; it's worth $30 for sure.
    Thanks for any input!

I didn’t get that particular camera but another one I found in one of the “products discussed section”. I believe it was around $20 shipped to my door and it showed up in a couple days. For being a cheap camera it’s working pretty well and it’s housing feels very durable. I’ve only had it on the truck for a couple weeks now so I can’t speak on long term use.

    Just thought I’d share!

Thanks! I decided to order the $29 "USA SELLER" one today.
    We'll see how it works!
It has the Toyota part # printed on it.

Finally warm enough to feel like taking my tailgate apart. No problems whatsoever. here are some pics of how it went. Also was a good opportunity to improve the lube on the latch mechanism.

This is what the blank looked like. Just like the camera.

    Here's the camera:

Blank still plugged in, camera is an exact fit.

My truck is safer now! I am really disappointed that Toyota won't offer these cheap upgrades for a reasonable price. If you are in my situation, you can do this for $29. $700 at toyota is ridiculous. It could save someone's life. We have little kids all over our neighborhood.

Hello, openroad [OP] by chance you have the part number of the wiring of the camera, since I am looking for it to adapt it in a 2010, and I can not find it thanks in advance

I purchased this camera for my 2012 Tacoma recently. Did not come in factory packaging, but seller stated it was Toyota OEM part and it was exact match of original camera right down to the labeling. Works like a champ! My original camera had a broken securing mount.

$10 camera from amz. Too cheap to buy the tailgate handle mounted in tow hitch cover instead. Camera is actually more clear than my lexus rx

I've used one and they work fine. Just be sure to buy a camera with the same plug as the harness. Earlier ones had 4 pins, later had 6 pins. Think they changed it sometime in 2013?
