Same as northern NY state. Freakin' shit calcifies like a crust to the undercarriage. Then it falls off taking itty bitty pieces of your truck with it.

My truck (2012) had no rust until a round trip from Kingston, ON to Utica, NY last January. I scrubbed and repainted the frame and all components this past spring.

Went to auto zone to pick up some fluid film, had 1 12oz can. Asked manager when more would be coming in and his reply was "when that can sells we'll get another one". WHAT, your only stocking 1 can at a time, "yes sir", thanks for your time and left. Are you kidding me, only keeping 1 can on the shelf at a time!!

In Canada we have a product called Krown t40. It was developed for use on salt water sea planes and is non toxic.
Shit works amazing, dont waste your time with fluid film if you can get this product.

You can get Krown stuff in the US, however it looks like only at a Krown dealer. Looks like most of them are in New York, but there's a few in Pennsylvania and Michigan.

I knew about the rust issues when I bought. Before snow started flying last winter I Fluid Filmed the undercarriage. The only rust I found was where the paint flaked off at the welds at the control arm mounts. I cleaned them up and painted them, re applied fluid film. My truck at 11,000 miles looks brand new underneath. That being said, though Delmarva gets some snow and salt, it isn't nearly as often as parts of PA.

I will be putting another coat of FF on in October.

I don't have one--never touch the frame. Though in the winter I do wash the truck a lot to try to keep salt off of it and I'll spray the frame at the same time.

Only rust is on some of the welds, and even then just barely. Everything else is black without any hint of rust. I crawl around underneath and look at it at every oil change.

And here I was hoping my 2015 wouldn't be victim to a rusty frame. :( Mine's yet to see a winter. Purchased February 2015 - and here in Montana it only snowed twice after that.

Though I think they sand the roads here rather than salting them. Not sure that's much better though! It's either your frame or your paint job that'll suffer. :(

I'll have to watch the frame next winter and see if anything happens.

Around here, the cities and major routes are salted. Small towns are sanded. I prefer the sand, but it turns the roads into an "arctic trail" because the snow will get packed down because it never melts and soon you're driving on several hard rutted inches of snow all the time because they never scrape down to the pavement. With a truck, no big deal, but the people with cars whine.

its not even just salt here in pa. It's salt and some type of chemical that they spray on the road.
The chemical doesn't even activate u till it's wet so when the snow melts the chemicals don't let it freeze. That shit will ruins everything in its path. And when you hit a puddle of it it sprays the underside of the vehichle. When it warms up it starts screwing up everything!
We're basically screwed till they clean the streets in late spring, then we get to wait the entire summer in traffic because EVERYTHING is under construction!

They say don't even keep your car in the garage in the winter because it being above freezing will activate the chemicals so it can rot away even quicker.

Just wanted to tell you guys I went back to the dealer to state my concerns about the truck, they were nice as could be. They did not offer anything that would cost them money but they did say that I shouldn't worry because Toyota will do the right thing. The service manager took me out back and showed me a frame (which looked like it had been at the bottom of the ocean for years) and said if my frame looked like that they would undercoat it at Toyota's direction unless it had a hole in it then they would replace it. I said I never wanted my frame to even come close to looking like that. He told me to get it undercoated. Seems to me I recall asking about that when I bought the truck and was told Toyota did not recommend it.

Don't use a solid undercoating - that stuff cracks and lets saltwater soak in under it. Then it starts rusting down there and you can't even see it until it's too late. Motor oil is better than nothing, but not by very much. It doesn't seem to stick or creep as well as fluid film does.

I bought my truck in Feb 2014 so it caught the tail end of winter with no protection. I washed it a few times but by that spring there were a couple spots with very minor / harmless surface rust. I sprayed a lot of fluid film all over the underside last October (the thick stuff from the gallon paint can) and then didn't bother washing the truck again until the middle of May when I was sure they were done laying down salt. It seems like it did the job - no sign the rust spread any further. I'm going to keep coating it every fall and then washing it off real well in the spring. The first application is a pain but once you have your system down it's pretty easy.

Thanks, I just put motor oil on it looks good I am planning on Fluid Film before winter. The only thing is I am defiantly going to pressure wash the underside of my truck throughout the winter and fluid film says not to.

So far my plan is to not drive my truck when the roads are treated. I don't care what it is, that crap rusts anything. We use the salt spread and the liquid spray here in Virginia as well.

This may be wrong but I think Toyota had run the numbers and has found it is cheaper to replace frames in the NE than to make a frame that doesn't rust throughout the country. It makes me less mad at
Ford, they run the same numbers..
