    You're definitely free to do that but the reason FF says not to is because it will remove the film. Kind of defeats the purpose of the whole thing. A garden hose sprayer is more work but it will still remove the salt without washing off the FF. That's the main reason I don't wash mine in the winter - the underbody cleaner at carwashes has soap and high pressure, which is very good at removing the film.

    My previous gen 1 Tacoma rusted out beneath me and Toyota bought it back so I spent a ton of time researching a way to keep that from happening again with minimal effort. This is the best approach I could find but it seems to work.

    Thanks for the advise, my normal washing hose in the winter is froze solid I won't let that stuff sit in my truck till spring..
