My taco is one month old with two thousand miles on it. A couple days after I bought it this strange noise started. AFTER I completely turn the key to off, the belts continue to roll for about three seconds and what sounds like the generator continues also and MOANS. Now after it moans, a high pitch whistle sound starts until everything quiets. Does anyone know what the problem is??

mine does it and I like it :) it's like a power down sound almost. I'm good with it personally but if you are not have the stealership take a look (sound)
although I don't have a whistle sound. Whistle to me is high pitched.

It's your smog pump. I think it sounds kind of cool.

There is no 'problem'. Your truck is like every other V6 Tacoma since 2012.

I hate that sound. Almost every time I pull into the gas station, I get someone looking over at me when I shut it off. Sounds like truck is having an asthma attack.

My '15 DCLB makes a whine/wooshing noise after I shut it off. Always has. Mechanic buddy of mine pointed out that the Tacoma has a secondary air pump (God knows why). The air coming out of that is what causes the sound. I thought it was really annoying.

Now I don't really notice it.

Don't even joke about that. Low blinker fluid will total someone's vehicle. Friends don't let friends drive on low blinker fluid.

Thanks for the replies. I took it to the dealer yesterday and for the FIRST time ever it did not make the noise. They had the lead mechanic look at it and he said exactly what you guys are saying. IT IS the secondary injection pump blowing out any moisture or humidity in the system. I also found out mine DID NOT have synthetic oil in it so I had them change it out to synthetic. Anyone with a 2015 like mine, there is conflicting info as to what oil is in it from the factory. I would not want to go 10K until the first oil change with conventional oil.

    Totally normal.
Also, when you first fire it up, place it in drive, and roll forward a few feet you'll hear a noise almost like a soft thud. Same thing on 12 and up. Normal ;)

    Two issues here:
    1) Toyota ships the Tacoma with conventional 5W-30 oil. This is what they recommend.
    2) Oil changes are recommended by Toyota in 5,000 mile increments. Not 10,000 miles.

    A soft thud?

Is the Piston Return Spring sticking?
