We ought to make a TRC bedside sticker instead of TRD. Might add $3k in resale and 5 hp.

^I wanted a TMG (Toyota Motorsports GmBH) decal in place of the TRD one, but SockMonkey stopped making decals.

The stamping dies are progressive. Since many geometric features are common, producing the RC likely doesn't require 30% more tooling for the cab. (And isn't the metal portion of the door common between RC and DC?)

    Doors are different.
A few guys have attempted to do the transplant to get power windows and locks on the RC and it isn't happening. The door and inside plastics are different.

^That's pretty surprising. Do you have a link to the thread? I am genuinely curious, is the RC door larger?

On another note, 2015 F-150 will keep the rear-hinged access cab doors:

No link (you know how bad the search function is).
Singlecabguy wanted to swap the interior panels and a few people piped in that they would not fit.

I suspect that the RC doors are a bit longer.

I've been mostly a RC guy and openly pursued my present one, a manual trans, 09 2WD Base when looking for a new truck in 08. When I purchased, I paid 17K OTD, a extended cab was roughly 4k more. Sure EC's have more room although my RC still allows either 4 bags of groceries or two long rifles behind the seat.

Rather than actual lack of demand, I feel the RC wasn't give a fair chance to succeed. My 09 base was not offered with bucket seats, Intermittent wipers or cruise control. I feel this was unacceptable to people and cost sales.

As far as perks, the RC Base is possibly the easiest truck I've ever loaded a motorcycle into and tie down. I'm almost 60 and this is important to me. Ride is decent, gas mileage is very good at 26 mpg and maneuverability is great. Heats up and cools down quicker than anything I've owned. Engine runs well and brake life has been great.

Vehicles are bigger. People are bigger. You know what's not bigger? The parking stalls.

After reading the article about no more regular cabs in the 2015 model year i decided to look into ordering a 2014 reg cab 4x4 manual late winter so it would be here by spring/summer ( i am in no hurry). So i emailed toyota directly and asked them since they are discontuing the regular cab for 2015 What is the latest i could order a 2014? They replied with "Toyota has not announced plans to discontinue the tacoma regular cab for the 2015 year" and to contact my dealer about when the latest i could order one would be.anyone heard anything else on the 2015 regular cabs?

Hummm, I believe you and the article. I just couldn't imagine Ford redesigning their truck for the 2015 model year, only to have to re-think or re-design the rear hinged extra-cab debacle (if the article is accurate) whether you like Ford trucks or not, I would imagine the number one selling truck being the immediate indicator of design trends, laws and compliancy.

IMO, just adding DI to the 2.7, would make that a competitive mill as well. Probably would bring hp to 200-205ish and torque to 185-190 ish. Which wouldn't be a bad base option, providing the Tacoma doesn't grow larger than it currently is, and goes on a diet weight wise.

I would love a direct injection 2.7, Access Cab, 4x4 with 6-speed manual gearbox. You are right though, the current 4.0L would probably put out 305-310 hp (Guessing Fords 3.7 makes 305 in the F-150) and would be a riot in a Tacoma sized truck, no supercharger needed and probably get 1-2 mpg's better on 87 fuel.

Looks like Ford finally had a good idea with the rear door opening a full 180.

That was the most frustrating thing about my Tundra... trying to load the truck after shopping but being "trapped" between the doors and another parked car with the shopping cart on the other side of the door. Have to push the cart to the front of the truck, open both doors, then close the front door to access the cart... then pray that your wife doesn't slam the rear door without opening the front as you take the cart away.

I’m not really surprised. i mean what the ratio that you see on the road. most are AC or even DC very few are reg cab.

This is also true. they still are nice and have a use. i have seen napa use them for parts trucks.
