    Toytec 3inch lift
Hey guys I have a 2015 Tacoma we just put a 6inch BDS lift on it, but a problem came up about 4 days ago, I will be driving down the road and my first push of my brake pedal will be very soft, then I release and press again and it goes back to normal. I checked the fluid level about 2 days ago it's at the same level. No leakage from the master cylinder or any from the brake lines. Could it be a very premature failure of the master? I don't see how air would have got in the lines because we didn't disconnect any lines when we installed the lift that's why I ruled out the air in the lines. Truck has 8200 miles on it, thanks guys

Check rear shoe adjustment, check front wheel bearings for play (including axle nut torque for 4wd's), and check that the caliper to spindle bolts are tight.

    You installed a 6" lift......

Check around and near all the areas that were affected by the lift. Check front hard & soft lines. You could have something pinched, over-stretched, or even interference issues. Check the rear lines around/near the axles. You could have a hairline leak that you can't initially see without looking closer. Put the truck in park/ebrake engaged. Press on the brakes as hard as you can - the peddle should reach a max down position and stop. If you have a hairline leak, the peddle will keep moving ever so slightly downward. Find Leak....repair leak....bleed brakes.

If you can't find anything that's caused by the lift...then, take the truck to the dealer - you're still under warranty.

My brakes just started doing this a couple of days ago and I haven't done anything at all to my truck for months! Let me know if you find out anything about yours, its not a good feeling.

Don't know if its the same or not, but my left front wheel bearing crapped the bed. That was my culprit. Not sure if your wheel bearing would go out that fast but something to eliminate.

Big lift usually means big tires.....Big tires = HEAVY tires. Heavy tires can be a TON out of balance. Big diameter tires will compound the problem. Then you get premature wheel bearing wear and/or failure. That causes the rotors to have more run out than they should. Then you have to pump the brakes to get 'em to clamp down on the rotor. In spite of the fact many of us put the biggest tires we can stuff under the fenders on these trucks, the brakes were engineered for a smaller, lighter tire. When you go outside of the design parameters, you run the risk of things just not working like they should.

Funny thing is, ask any Toyota tech, these bearings fail just as much on stockers, same with fj's and 4runners. Just a poor design. Not saying those things don't affect the wear, just that wheel bearing failure is not soley due to lift, oversized tires, ect....

I'm on Tacoma #4. 1st logged over 200,000 miles. #2 saw over 100,000 before it was totaled in a wreck. #3 hit 210,000 on the day I traded it in. I'm at 72,000 on the current one. Never had a bearing failure. #1 spent most of it's life with 38" Gateway Gumbo Mudders and 7" of lift on it.
