Hi all, new to the forum just bought my first taco brand new black 2016 sr5 4x4, love it.

Just curious anyone have a backrack installed on their 16 yet? Work in construction and it would come in handy for me. Are the truck beds and rail system the same as the 15'?

should be the same rail system. although the 16 doesn't have a front rail. The one from the 2015 fits. You can order it from Toyota if you need it.

Do you have a part number for this? My googling skills didn't work this morning.

Stirring up an old thread, so it turns out the brackets for the rack for a 2nd gen taco will not work on a 3rd gen. I called backrack and they said probably another month or so until rack brackets for 2016 will be fabbed up. Just out of curiousity anyone on here have some sort of headache rack mounted on their 3rd gen yet? Looking for some ideas

Curious - Why won't the 2005-20016 backrack brackets work? - The rail system is the same on the 2016s (assuming it is ... minus the cab strip) - Is the problem the depth of the rail relative to the top of the bed?

Hoping to have a backrack installed this week.

The bed rail system is lower than previous years relative to the depth of the actual bed rails themselves

Thule should have mounts out soon, they told me about 4-6 weeks.

They make the Exsporter Pro, I'm not sure if that's considered a headache rack.

Do the plastic covers on the top of the box sides on the 2016 tacos just pop out like they did on the 2nd gen?
I need to take them off to mount my rack.
    see pics of my 05.
fyi I had the xsporter on my 05 didn't like it all. keep moving around and used up to much space for my d rings.
When I took the vertical and cross bars off to load higher gear in the xsporter bed rail mounts just fell off.

I haven attempted to take off the plastic bed caps, I don't think it would make a difference for the mounting brackets I have. Thank you for the heads up on the xsportster btw, I don't think it would suit my needs. The classic "Bowtie" style rack is the one I'm going to stick with

Purchased the 2016 mounting bed rail brackets from autoaccessoriesgarage, but they did not have a 2016 listed backrack. I took a measurement to make sure the width is the same as the 2015, and it was, so I purchased it hoping everything would work out. It fit perfectly, installed in like 25 minutes or less. I use j-hooks to mount my toolbox to the mounting brackets, have had no problems!

What are those bars on the sides of your pickup bed? They are fantastic.
