I think it will be a good reliable truck as always. It's just got a little front end ugly imo. Nothing a refresh or ordering in black can't take care of.

No, not really. It was more about people not the truck.

I can't figure out why anyone would expect anything different. After all:

    1. The truck is not attractive to most people. The best reception it seems to get is, "it's not that bad" or "if you mod it, it looks okay."

    2. The truck is missing many features that people have been asking for for years, many of which the competition has. It is also not a complete revision.

    3. The price has gone up significantly.

Any new vehicle will get some whining. But any vehicle that launches with all three of those issues will generate a perfect whining storm.

Regardless of what people think, Toyota will sell boatloads of them.

Toyota sells boatloads of Camrys too. They sold boatloads of Camrys even when they started cutting pennies and turning them into Japanese Chevys, because people remembered the earlier ones that were built like a Lexus.

Complacence killed GM. GM fanboys kept buying them even after they were crap because they were American or because their dads bought them. And I remember them saying, "you can't argue with sales volume." They used to hate on Truth About Cars for saying that GM was going down - right up until the time that GM actually did. The best thing those GM fanboys could have ever done for GM was to hold them accountable when they started building crap cars in the 80's. If they had done that, GM might not have destroyed their reputation in the long term.

I don't think Toyota is quite GM yet, but I do think they are getting complacent. This is a half assed redesign on a 10 year old vehicle. And I think it will hurt them over time if they don't shape it up.

So people can claim that it won't hurt their volume, but I am someone who really wanted to buy the 3rd Gen, and I probably won't. It's tragically ugly, and it's not significantly better than the Taco I had almost 10 years ago. So there's one sale. I don't think I'm the only one.

Let's hope it does not. If it fails, toyota returns to the drawing board and gives us what we want.

If they came out with a modern version of the 1st Gen, I would buy it in a second. I've got a friend with a TRD OR 1st Gen, and he said people offer to buy it off him every other day.

I just really don't want to deal with another old car.

People offer me too, but it will be a heap of rust before I quit driving it. I found the truck I wanted, with only 90k miles, it won't be retiring anytime soon. I enjoy driving it more each day it seems. Taking it on a 1350 mile road trip this weekend and can't wait!

Yeah, I know. It's just a shame to come back to that. I realize there are modern safety requirements that puff vehicles up, and I realize that Americans are getting wider, but it still seems like there is a market for a smaller truck. Anyway, there are plenty of threads on that...

Hey, the Yaris and all of these new small SUVS are selling just fine. If a mini-truck we're available I'd take it.

    Again spot on comment...
Considering the fact that two of my Toyota trucks lasted only 9 years due to the frame rot, that 3 gen better be a turbo Diesel Hilux on steroids for me to consider.
I got new frame for now, but 2009+ trucks will not likely get the same.
One of the first things I looked at 2016 truck is a frame, and its the same idiotic design as 2gen.. with the same crappy paint work...

So whats the resale value on 7-9 years old Toyota truck with frame snapped in half, that can no longer pass inspection ?
Let me answer that for you ...$100

So 2.5 Gen have to be better than anything else on the market if I am going to lose $30k in 9 years.
