I read that the 2016 tacoma will not have an exterior header or exhaust manifold (integrated or cast into the cylinder head) which means no aftermarket headers. As far I know, theres generally a lack of bolt on performance options when concerning tacomas.

The headers...excluding the supercharger..is the most worthwhile upgrade when bolt on engine performance iss concerned for Tacomas.

What's everyone's thoughts on this and the engine mod potential for the 2016s?

Doesn't make too much difference in California. 99% of aftermarket bolt-ons are not smog legal here. I'll put in a K&N filter and call it good.

    I'm sorry...

Also...you should look up some tests before adding that K&N filter. There are better options...Im not particularly a fan of dust or dirt in my engine so I'll pass on the K&N panel filters.

I added one of these tornado air induction things into my truck about 12 years ago. Helps with the air flow

I believe there are regular exhaust manifolds, they are not built into the heads.

There is other threads on here that prove it. As well as threads about that tornado air swirler thing to prove it does absolutely nothing as well. And it looks like there wont be any performance mods that give sufficient gains. Cause the only thing for the tacoma right now is headers and superchargers that really do anything, maybe that intake manifold spacer as well. Unless urd makes a 3rd gen supercharger...

If someone can hack the ECU, there is always the possibility to tune for greater power, at the expense of mileage, even with the stock exhaust system.

I stand corrected. I only briefly looked before and didn't remember it being like that. You are correct, the collector is integrated with the the head.

No one has really been able to do it on the 2nd or fist gen. The only thing we have is the maf calibrator or a piggyback or stand alone ecu.

Exhaust is cooled by water which makes the high compression engine impervious to knocking..

How short is the collector that they are going to mount the cats beside the engine? Shoot, it's going to be so hot in there

So the heads contain the whole exhaust manifold? Any pics of that? Interesting....

Search the forums, doesn't look like any new engine mods to report? I would be interested in the Supercharge or Turbo.
