I swear I read this somewhere on here but I've been looking all night and can't seem to find it.

Do the high beams and fogs not work at the same time? I don't have mine yet so i can't test it out but i thought i saw someone mention that the fogs and high beam don't work at the same time?

When you hit the High Beams the Fogs automatically shut off, at least that is what happens with my Canadian 2016 Limited.

Same as TRD OR models in Texas. As soon as high beams come on the fog lights go off.

I am not too sure why? But that is definitely how they work.

Yep. This is normal for all vehicles - not just Tacomas.

There used to be a mod for 2nd gens that easily bypassed this and allowed the fogs to stay on any time. I'm sure someone will figure it out for the 3rd gen (unless it's all controlled by software now).

It's a part of federal law the low beams and fogs are off when high beams are on. The requirement is scattered throughout 49 CFR 571.108, if you don't want to read the whole thing there's a plain English summary of sorts in Table 1a that describes the forward lighting requirements.

What it boils down to is that high beams alone are often designed to meet the federal maximum allowed forward lighting by themselves and any additional forward lighting will exceed these limits. Fogs could be included in the highbeam system if manufacturers wanted but they simply don't have the reach to help extend your forward vision enough to justify losing power from the highs to incorporate them. I can think of a few cars using multi bean highs, but nothing built in the last 25 years comes to mind.

Of course all that said, the chances that a LEO is going to see you transition between high and low, know that fogs staying on is very likely a violation of federal law (as I'm quite certain it is in the Tacoma), and will give a shit is so infinitesimally low you probably run near zero risk making the mod. Unless you live in a state with inspections and they look for that sort of thing...

Also to above anyone that has driven in tule fog will know that high beams (and low sometimes too) with fog lights are absolutely blinding.

Has anyone figured out a mod for the 3rd Gen yet? If so, I'd like to decide how my truck lights up the road.

You can just wire up a second relay to feed power to the low and fog when the highs go on. It's really simple actually.
