2,700 miles on my truck and I'm enjoying more each day. I'm definitely not a gear head. I would really enjoy a better sound exhaust. I've heard the TRD exhaust on the 2015 model and it sounds pretty good. According to TRD it also DOES improve HP and torque. Since this new engine seems to be fairly advanced I don't want to put an exhaust on that would hurt my performance in any way. I've been told that TRD will not offer one for at least 1 year. I saw this MagnaFlow online. Can anybody provide me with good technical advice on this topic. Thanks in advance!

Won't hurt your performance. But would expect minimal gains as far as performance unless you get into full exhaust with headers. Try it out, magnaflow usually sound pretty good but sometimes a bit of drone on the highway.

Will this new ds4 technology engine "play well" with a exhaust with reduced back pressure? Or maybe it will react even better??

Waste of money from a functional standpoint imo.

We will just have to wait a while longer for performance upgrades to come out :smash:

With Toyota stopping the TRD supercharger for the Tundra, I don't think we will ever see one again. This engine supercharged with about 365hp and 345 ft/lb sure would be fun.

Buy the exhaust and post a review. Sounds like your not expecting drastic gains and looking for a better sound so you got nothing to lose.

Why not just replace the muffler with MagnaFlow? It will improve sound and cost a lot less

That's Probably the most cost effective plan. Truthfully, I was hoping to put some sick-looking and sounding exhaust with mild performance gains. I'm probably living in a dream world. Thanks for your opinion.

Yeah, it's supposed to have 10 speed transmission and 400-500 pounds lighter. And a ECOBEAST V6 engine. But that's for another day, I know this in a Tacoma thread. Thanks!

10 speed transmission sounds like a nightmare. Everything else should be nice though. I had a magnaflow muffler on a '07 Ranger with the 4.0L and it sounded good. Not too loud.

Get it for the sound, not for HP gains. And for that reason, get just the muffler and have a shop cut/weld it in place of the stock muffler. Or better yet do it yourself but you'll need a welder and grinder.

How is the difference from your old truck to the '16 Taco?

I think its big money for the whole kit. You can go to a muffler guy and have him install just the muffler and tip for a lot less. I did and was less than $200

Well, to be honest. In my opinion the new Tacoma is a fairly significant upgrade over the last 2 Tacomas I had. Unfortunately, I wish Toyota had just done a "little" more with the engine transmission combo and a few other things. I've worked as a for Toyota off and on for over 15 years on the sales manager/ store manager end. So unfortunately I'm used to Toyota doing very minor upgrades as we all wish for a little more..

Scottyd, have you done anything with your exhaust on your 16? I'm considering the MF as well. Wanting to hear some video/sound clips!!

Not yet. I was hoping to see some Dyno results first. I've had Borla and it was a good exhayst. But a little noisey

Thanks! Let me know when you find some numbers/reviews/video bits if you don't mind.

Almost created a new thread for this. I noticed Magnaflow has come out with a cat back system for the '16s. Part number 19291 as found here: https://www.magnaflow.com/products?partNumber=19291

But they don't have any media or sound samples of it from what I can tell. Kind of hard to make a sale without that IMO. Has anyone put a Magnaflow system (of any kind) any their 3.5L? Anyone at all?

From what I understand, when they go out and make their own system specifically for a vehicle (and not just someone doing a muffler swap) they actually dyno it and can say it increases power (don't care about that, but don't want to loose any). Any validity at all to this? I'm mostly wanting to improve the sound if at all possible, but I don't want to go into it blindly of course.
