    They did, sort of:
"front tire changer has been suspended from all NASCAR Series Championship Points Events through May 18 and placed on NASCAR probation through Dec. 31"
    via jayski.com

Gibbs has announced they will not appeal the penalty. There's really nothing to gain from appealing. They're already in the CHASE, they keep the win, CC and FTC get a 1-race time out (Dover). CC can just go and have an extra week to prep the All-Star car for Charlotte. This, coupled with the paltry $20,000 fine is a slap on the wrist, considering they fined Tony $35,000 for talking about the lug nut deal in the first place. Meanwhile, the press is spinning it as NASCAR setting a stern example for other teams.

@thewarriordinghy , what I'm hearing is that they drilled the threads out of the fifth lug nut and glued it to the wheel (like the others), so when the car left pit road, it "looked" like there were five lugs holding the wheel on the hub, when one was actually a dummy. It's so dumb, it's smart, but they got busted.

Go drop $300 at Atlanta to run 8 minutes and then ask yourself if you could handle that experience, plus 39 other guys, driving 50mph faster ;)

^^^^^ This guy knows what he's talking about right here. The competition this season has been incredible, and I've enjoyed the recaps from each week's events. Kansas is the lone snoozer in the first 1/3 of the season. Dover is next and I look forward to seeing how that one pans out.

It's still there and looks AMAZING, as well as most of the other cars in that room. Not gonna lie, maybe it was the crisp January air, but my nipples might've gotten a little rigid when I walked in that place.

I still think the teams should have shut their mouths and let the other lug nut rule stay affective...

Do like lots of us did...go out and build a car and start racing it, which is the way most NASCAR drivers started for years. (Now days these guys start in karts, many of them when they're 5 or 6 years old.) if you're good enough on the short tracks, you hope that someone notices you and puts you in a better car or a higher class. If they don't notice you, you go into debt to build a better car and then hope someone picks you up as a driver. The key is to let someone else pay the bills.

:pccoffee: I hadn't read that actually. Those guys are like CSI after the race.

43 BTW, but I probably watched my first race when I was about 3 or 4, so I saw all the cool '70s cars race back then. Speaking of back then, did you ever catch "Back in the Day, with Dale Jr."? It was on the old Speed Channel back in the day!

I remember seeing it a couple times. I turn on old footage on YouTube to fall asleep at night. I started watching races Shen I was a toddler in the mid-80s, and attending in '91, so those machines are near and dear to me.

Get $15-$20k, go buy a Legends racer for 7-9k, a small trailer, and all the gear needed to operate weekly. Get familiar with all the short tracks in the southeast. You'll need a shop and an affiliated family business to "sponsor" yourself.

You really need a DeLorean with 1.21 jigawatts to go back in time and start as early as possible, so that your body can get used to using it's equilibrium to it's limits, which reduces the fear emotion, and let's you push harder. That's really hard to do the older you get. I raced moto for years and quit in my early 20's. Getting on a bike now scares the sh!t outta me! :bikewhoops::bikewheelie2::bikewheelie::annoyed::bananadead::sadviolin::bucket:

This for real. I'm 35 and I ride bikes WAY differently than I did at 20. I had enough close calls and broken legs to keep me under the speed limit and wearing safe gear.
I was walking with my five year old yesterday and he asked why I wasn't a race car driver. I told him I wanted to be a dad more than a race car driver. My hope is to squirrel some $ away so by the time I'm 45-50, I can have something like a Legends car (ideally), or something else small and manageable to run the area short tracks, that he and I can split driving duties. Late models are too big and pricey these days and I don't have that kind of space or know-how. He wants to go Kart racing, but I can't finance that kind of operation. I'm thinking Soap Box Derby as a project for us. My shop is a paltry 12x16' barn with a loft.

If I'd wanted a shot to race, I should've started at age 5 with a kart for all the reasons mentioned above. No roller coaster will prepare your head for the feeling of a 150mph dive bomb into turn 1 at Atlanta. It's easy to see how people get the racing bug after such an experience.

Ya know, when my 14 year old son was young, I had the money to get him started in racing, but I had to consciously make the decision to not do it. I knew that he'd get hooked and that as he grew, I wouldn't be able to afford the next steps moving up. I often regret this decision, but we did venture into ATV racing, where he did well, but eventually just lost interest. Something in me told my brain that this child, even though he was a little gearhead, may not be a born racer. Some of us aren't, and I'm glad I identified his strengths early in his life and didn't waste a lot of money and coaching on something that just wasn't going to work out. He's smart and competitive in other areas and I'm proud of him anyway.

I don't have a family business... So 9k for the legends racer, is that motor and all? Also is the other 11k for equipment?

You can get a used car and spare parts for around 7. A brand new one is around 9, last I checked. I think they still run Yamaha and Kawasaki 4 stroke engines. You'll need safety equipment, a nice tire allowance, and time. Maintenance is low and there aren't many parts to wrench because the engines are sealed from the manufacturer. I'm not sure how much suspension play you have as I've never really gotten into/under one. They were developed as low maintenance, intro race cars. Checkout Craig's list. Some guy around here has 2-3, plus trailer and spare pets for sale.

Can't you just do this after you rent a number? :rofl:It's not required to have a sponser out here.
