Not on purpose, he admitted it was his fault come on. Wouldn't of been in that position if Kyle hadn't over driven turn 1 a million times.

Btw got the cards, thank you sir!

Well, it wasn't the result I wanted (11 win), or the carnage I wanted to see (who doesn't root for the 78 & 42?), but M A N, who doesn't love these sweet road course races with three guys going at it for the win? It was NOT like this in the '90s. Watkins Glen has put on one of the best shows of the year for five years running. The intensity level at the road courses has increased five-fold since I was a kid. These guys are hanging it all out from 1-40th place on track.

Ehh, who cares really. it didn't change the winner of the race, they're both in the Chase, it sucks, but it's "just one of them racing deals" as Bill Elliott always said.

I think there are three categories of driver for those who watch NASCAR more than casually, I reckon:

Group 1) Good Guys & Underdogs:
They can do whatever they want and it's justified because they deserve a break/win/etc, or the TV camera is usually not aimed at them (but trust me, they do a LOT of brash & dumb stuff)
    3 Dillion, 6 Bayne, 7 Smith, 13 Mears, 16 Biffle, 21 Blaney, 23 Ragan, 24 Elliott, 27 Menard, 34 Buescher, Cassill, 46 Annett, 78 Truex, 83 DiBeneditto, 88 Earnhardt, 95 McDowell

    Group 2) Fence Straddlers:
These drivers step over the line from time to time, but not too often. Give & take, I suppose. For most, their most competitive years are behind them
    1 McMurray, 5 Kahne, 15 Bowyer, 16 Stenhouse, 31 Newman, 42 Larson, 43 Almirola, 44 Scott, 47 Allmendinger

    Group 3) Heroes & Villains:
These guys better not do ANYTHING to ANYBODY or else the internetz will EXPLODE with more rage than a Taco owner when asked for his opinion on the '17 Ridgeline.
    2 Keselowski, 4 Harvick, 10 Patrick, 11 Hamlin, 14 Stewart, 18 Ky Busch, 19 Edwards, 20 Kenseth, 22 Logano, 41 Ku Busch, 48 Johnson

NOW, go back over these three categories and figure out which lists consists of most of the Highest Paid drivers with the most lucrative contracts in the sport (clearly, Earnhardt is an outlier). It pays to race hard, push buttons, not give AF about public perception. It's business. They don't give a rats ass what anybody really thinks. They could quit today and never work another day in their lives.

I thought Dillon was LOADED from merchandise and endorsements too? At the tracks I see lots of his stuff sold, and I think he's in the top 10 in sales?

so what are the thoughts on the idea of banning excessive burnouts?

I'm young, but I'm old school. Burnouts are dumb (IMO), not to mention hazardous for everyone's lungs in the stands (but seriously, who goes to a race concerned about their well-being; between the exhaust, flying debris, and artery clogging concessions, I'm sure being a racing fans takes a decade off your life). I like to see classy celebrations; a slow victory lap with a wave to the crowd, a checkered or American flag hanging out the window, an intact car rolling into victory lane with the entire crew riding along.

Backflips are dumb. Tire bursting burnouts are dumb. Backing the thing into the wall to intentionally hide illegal stuff is smart. Whatever, really. My opinion doesn't matter. I'm not lying to watch them at home, and when I go to the track, I'm gone as soon as the winner takes the flag.

I love them, and I love the uniqueness each driver brings with their own celebrations. But I also understand the value of retaining the cars structure as it is at the finish due to how closely the competition is at this point. I mean Gibbs drivers were actually putting the optional wipers on their cars at WG last week with 0% chance of rain because engineers felt it gave very minuscule performance in aero. When it's like that, can't support a burnout destroying the car.

considering the link someone posted about nascar loss of interest...... this is one of those things the author was eluding too. Next will be nascar limiting all cars to 200 mph on the track during races. Anyone in violation will have to do a pass through pit lane at 60 mph..

Just have them check the winner immediately post race, then let them burn it down, pretty simple solution.

My favorite burnout was KB hanging out the window with the steering wheel on the roof. Light'em up!!

Was it Hamlin or Larson who did a spin across the infield with the wheel out the window last year?

It was Larson who started it.
