    Via Jayski.com:
Truex Jr. admits mistake in causing wreck:
#78-Martin Truex Jr. felt bad about an incident that resulted in a multicar accident during a restart on Lap 266 [in the Bank of America Sprint Cup Series race at Charlotte Motor Speedway, when Truex got in the the back of the #3, causing it to spin out and hit the wall, causing a 12 car wreck]. "I want to say that I'm sorry to Austin Dillon, the 3 team, Slugger (Labbe, crew chief) and all those guys," said Truex. "I know they're working hard and they certainly didn't need me to turn them around on that restart. I feel terrible about that. I was just trying to help get him going and just pushed way too hard so I just want to apologize to those guys and hopefully I can talk to Austin and make sure he's okay with everything. We made a nice comeback. But I'm disappointed at how we ran today. As bad as we were we were still going to have a good day and then the clutch problem. That really just took any chance we had away. All in all, we just missed it and we fought hard. We did a good job of making something out of it until the clutch went out." Of the 12 drivers competing in Round 2 of the Chase, Truex ranks seventh in points after the first of three races. The top eight drivers advance to the third round. Truex is 19 points ahead of the ninth place driver.

That's the standard apology - the key point is he was trying to push Dillon, obviously the 3 car wasn't fast enough to take that push and got turned. That's all I was trying to say. And yes - that IS racing. Happens all the time.

Where are they this week, Kansas? SNORE. The Chase is here to stay, now if they could liven it up a bit: Sub in some tracks the CUP series usually doesn't visit. Move the schedule around to accommodate different tracks in the season homestretch. I would love to see 1-2 road courses added to the schedule, ideally in the Chase. Road Atlanta, Road America, whatever. The final ten rounds are comprised of a whole bunch of cookie cutters, then Martinsville, and Talladega. It's hard to get excited about a bunch of tracks that routinely put on snoozers.

    It'll never happen but....

    Ideal Chase schedule:
(30 race season, 6 race Chase, 14 seeds, eliminate 2 drivers after event)

    Darlington Raceway, Darlington, SC
    --Cut bottom 2 drivers
    Barber Motorsports Park, Leeds, AL
    --Cut bottom 2 drivers
    Martinsville Speedway, Martinsville, VA
    --Cut bottom 2 drivers
    Road Atlanta, Braselton, GA
    --Cut bottom 2 drivers
    Talladega Speedway, AL
    --Cut bottom 2 drivers
    Finale: North Wilkesboro, NC
(four drivers run for the championship in old-school season finale, season ends in early October)

Sounds like Harvick's crew is doing him in AGAIN. Jimmie & Tony can't keep their engines cool. Chase Elliott looking stout (again)* oops, Elliott just had some tire trouble. Alex Bowman was the highest qualifying Hendrick car, AGAIN. Truex has the best looking stats for intermediate 1.5 tracks, though that team was a no-show at Charlotte. Blaney peeked into the top-10 early.

I'd rather the chase be win and get in, and then they compete the chase for most wins and points wins (no eliminations, just one long round)

Before & after. Hopefully not during..... though several drivers have admitted to it over the years. By the way, almost have my wife convinced 'Dega is a good idea this weekend. I'm afraid the track-side camping may be a bit wild for my 5yo on Saturday night. He has to go this time because he's pissed I didn't take him to Darlington or Martinsville.

Found the most recent occurrence of driver's crapping themselves in the car: Tony Stewart, Watkins Glen, 2004. Had the flu, was feeling ill in the car, radioed for a relief driver then radioed again and said "nevermind." Ran the entire race in his poo pants and WON. Climbed out in victory lane, leaned on car, then promptly hustled to his bus.

Yeah, the Nesmiths put on a good show on that track. I've been to larger and smaller dirt tracks and little 'Dega is the perfect size dirt track. The sun sets behind the grandstand, so the track looks spectacular in the evening. They do dirt karting there too, but it's usually on a different night than the Late Models. I've been talking to a guy who runs karts there. It feels a lot bigger when karting. He says it's a blast.

Lots of fast cars, but the 2, 24, 17, 41, 21 look independently quick (if that's possible at Talladega).

I wish I was there as the weather looks perfect and the Fords are fast.

Edit: quick reminder, the #16 almost won this race last year. Also reports he's heading to a second JTG Daughtry Chevy next year.
