In all honesty the pinging could very well be caused by the gas around here. I mean, not even other 04B10 guys are having the issues I am. Anyway, gonna give it time and see if things settle down.

    Mostly stuff I built.
Mine has been great sense I flashed 1.03c with the exception of my first hard take off. Had about 2-3 seconds of what felt like ignition break up while rolling into the throttle in second gear just after clutch release. This was the one and only bobble I have experienced.

I flashed 1.03C 87 this morning before making a trip to the transfer station. Feels great after only a few miles. Midrange power is definitely still there and an improvement over 1.03.

@OVTune : Matt, did you make any changes to DEFCO on 1.03C? I know you said this was throttle mapping, but it felt like DEFCO was behaving much nicer. I didn't notice the jerk in 3rd gear as the rpms dropped below 1500.

Anyone else not noticing DEFCO as much?

Tuned to 1.03c and then idled for 10 mins.

Does anyone what this knocking sound is? It eventually goes away after about 5 mins.

Wanted to update this. With the 1.03C MT tune, the clunk is no longer there, or it has become less noticeable. It would happen when i let go of the gas pedal abruptly. Really apparent in stop and go traffic. I'm not able to articulate a description worthy of this tune. However though, I find myself always wanting to drive my truck every chance I get instead of my wife's sedan.

Yep, I LOVE driving this truck now. Shifts feel better, down shifting feels better, throttle tip-in response feels better, with all the same pep as 1.03b.

I'm eager to test the throttle this weekend with a good snow storm we have coming in to see how it compares to 1.03b very responsive throttle tip-in. More to follow when the snow finally gets here.

Does it go away when you press the clutch? Kinda sounds like a throw out bearing?

Just got done doing a re-flash up to 103.c, 20 minute warm up from a cold engine right after completing the flash. This tune just keeps getting better, the off idle/low speed hiccup between 1st/2nd seems to be gone, throttle response and power are smooth and linear. Took my grandson with me on the test drive he said it sounds like a race car now.:D:burnrubber:

i am positive there was no work done to DFCO!!
i believe this new responsive throttle is making it harder to manage the surging and bucking in low speed bumper to bumper traffic .the stock tune throttles numb tip in mad it smoother.i remember a vehicle reviewer pointing out the excessive lash in these particular trucks.
this is my post from last year on lash.

while this tune makes managing rev hang easier, it may be exaggerating another problem.!!!! DFCO !!!!

looks like DFCO (meat) back on the menu boys (parody from lord of the rings)

It is most likely the injector cleaning cycle. You probably don’t idle your truck that much so you haven’t noticed it before. My truck gets idled quite a bit on job sites and believe me these engines make some funny noises. I have actually stopped working before and killed my welder to listen to the Tacoma idle and try and figure out what the he’ll a noise was.

Ok, just did my daily commute in the snow. Very similar conditions when I was on 1.03b file and here are some thoughts:

While driving at 30 mph @ 2k rmps in third gear, I tried to mimic the end breaking loose. It did not. I tried at 25 at around 1500k rpm's, it did not break loose. I tried at 35 at around 2200 rpms, it did not break loose.

Now here is the interesting part. For all these tests, I started with easy throttle inputs (as before on 1.03b I would break the end loose with very mild throttle inputs) and it was very uneventful. Then I ran each test again and went instantly to ~75% throttle, then pinned it. In each test I was UNABLE to break the end loose.

So for those who are about to read this next part and say "I told you so" or any other comment of the sort, a suggestion: never start a business of your own. It's called R&D for a reason.

With that said, @OVTune I think a file between 1.03b and 1.03c would be absolutely the sweet spot.

1.03b seemed to be the sweet spot for the high end throttle response and 1.03c calmed that down, but lacks the peep and the slight wow factor. However, a file that is right between these two I think would be absolutely amazing.

I was NOT in 4wd for this test and never felt the throttle inputs were going to break the end loose. It was a very nice commute in these snowy conditions.
