2016 OVTune Tacoma 3.5L Manual Transmission / Engine ECU Reflash

I noticed my truck felt better with the 91 tune. The engine was smoother and not as rough. I’ll probably load the 91 tune after the next iteration.

 

It's going great, only issues are the ones I ALLUDED to in an earlier post plus some tip in quirks. I think I will log the "double bump on lift" surge for Mat, despite the fact that a new release seems imminent.. hmm he did say he was going to put it out to the loggers first, so maybe that's my chance.

Still running 1.03B. I’ve got far less complaints about it now that it’s not a complete snow and ice covered mess here. I understand why some people didn’t have any issues with it now that things have dried out.

Had some fun with it over the weekend in some unexpected snow that was gone by afternoon

 

This comment is a load of crap. Windows Defender is one of if not the best AV solutions right now. All of the other tools minus Malwarebytes have been on a long spiral decline for years now.

If you use Windows 10 with Norton, Mcafee, Avast, Sophos, Kaspersky (especially this one its russian owned), etc. remove it and leave defender on. Its a better product and Microsoft has a vested interest in keeping your computer protected.




Been too busy this weekend to datalog. Hopefully I can do it after work tonight. It seems Mat found the source of the issue which is great. Im personally not interested in a full otto mode, and I would like to stick with 87 unless there are serious limitations with it. Cant wait to get that tune loaded.

 

Fuck I love that color with the black rims/flares/pro grille. All it needs now is a longer box and a shorter cab

My log for 1.03C - 87 test tune 1 should have captured this, but as mentioned it was a bit more subtle. Unfortunately I did more of a longer drive for my 1.03c -87 (original) tune and didn’t capture the bad surging. I may try again...

 

Although I was on the 1.03C 91 map, I intentionally captured two instances of nasty stutter, each about 10 seconds long.
The next map Mat sent me (1.03C 91 test 001) sorted my truck out for that issue. He said it looked like my truck was bouncing in and out of Atkinson mode at the particular load/RPM where my stutters occurred.

 

What rpm and gear was that

 

I was in 3rd, ~2500-2700 RPM. But wait, read on..

In that gear it's really easy to tell when the truck is stuttering, and I wanted to make it obvious for Mat to find in the log file.

Please understand that the truck did stutter in other gears as well (4 and 5 notably), it's the rpm range and throttle posn/load that's important.

TBH I've seen your OVtune review, and you kind of downplayed this issue. I'm not really calling you out, but the stutters were very much annoying to anyone experiencing them. They were not mild or subtle in any way on my truck. If someone new to the scene bought the tune, flashed 1.03C and had their truck do this, I guarantee they would not be happy.

Anyway, as you stated in your review a fix is coming and let's hope it sticks (and works for everyone).

 

Just reviewed my own review and I see what you're referring to, sir. I do want to say however, that coming from someone not experiencing the reported issues, I think any mention of it would seem downplayed anyhow. Building off of that, at the time of my review, the mentions of it werent as bad or terrible as they have been recently. I went off of what I had seen being said. 1.03C wasn't out yet at this time

Is it possible that 04b12 is not experiencing the stutters but 04b10 and 04b11 are? Just browsing through it seems like the 04b12 guys are the only ones claiming not to have the stutter.

04B12 here and definitely have the hesitation/stutter on 1.03b and 1.03c 87 tunes. Haven't tried the 91 tunes yet.
