software deployments dates are almost always missed in my long experience in software dev / deployment. I normally add a 20% buffer in my plans regardless of what my developers tell me b/c surprises ALWAYS surface and even then there is little you can do to account for how things will actually behave in the wild (which is why there are normally very quick .01 or "b" releases). I just take dates with a grain of salt on this sort of thing - it's a guide, but ultimately if someone doesn't release on time it IS because it's not done yet and is still being perfected. I'd much rather wait (communications are helpful but then again good developers are never GREAT communicators...goes with the territory) for something that's more solid to put on a ~$35-40k truck vs. something rushed to hit an arbitrary self-imposed deadline.... I feel you though. Clarity is nice but things just are never binary (see what I did there!?) in software dev...

Agreed, but I woulda been happy with an update stating the target was going to be missed. That's all.

Yeah, I feel ya. Things keep picking up between 3.5 and 4.0 tunes and we won't even be talking to OV anymore, he'll end up with a project / program manager to handle the talking while he does the magic.

Just use 4lo then bro. I was fine towing my buddy's 2k lb boat and 1200lb trailer and throwing it in 4 lo to drive around the loading dock, just dont take a hairpin turn in 4lo. I limited myself to about 180* of wheel travel one side locked to the other and managed to avoid grenading the transfer case. Just changed out the fluid the other day and found no metal shavings or any other sort of issues either
(the more you turn the wheel the greater the differential in angular velocity one side to the other= more strain on gears which are trying to turn wheels same speed and direction )

Try reversing with 5-6k lbs up a hill while turning in a paved residential area and report back. Sometimes you don’t get to choose what kind of turn you want to make. If you want to reverse with a trailer more often then the occasional borrowing of a friend’s equipment then 2 low could be very handy for making some situations much more comfortable.

Isn’t this thread about getting more performance and driving comfort with our MT trucks?

Thats a REALLY specific request, and one that I totally wasn't expecting. Carry on sir! I was just saying that in case you were worried about the transfer case grenading it seems to be a little more stout than people give credit.

With that being said, just a cautionary word that towing 6K uphill is probably getting close to the upper towing limit, but I don't know much about your trucks setup and I assume you know that as well.

Extreme situation at the upper limit of this truck’s capability, yes. But still within the practical usage of a truck and within its factory rated limits. And I have done it on more than one occasion.

Yeah bro you got it! I initially did not see the purpose of what you were getting at, but now it makes much more sense. If you DO find a way to engage lo gears in 2WD please share, but another way to get that same effect would be to install a second manually-engaged transfer case so you can do 2lo anytime, and also you could have the option to engage 4 double low, so you would have effectively twice as much torque, again. Marlin crawler has been doing similar installations on first and second gens as well as 4runners since the 80s

I have big plans for the Tacoma everyone. MT and AT. I know we are hitting a few speed bumps along the development path, things are a little slow right now with the wave of customers and the holidays, but the future of modifications for the Tacoma is going to be awesome, I promise you that.
