I don't think I will ever be able to run the upcoming 87 file after experiencing 1.04A 91.

I like the added power waaaay to much lol.

@St.Germain - only added weight so far is a bedrug. I have the gen2 TRD pro suspension but I'm not adding it until i do new UCAs, wheels and tires. Intend to run Volks so that won't add any weight either. Might lose some. So I'm bone stock on stock tires that tend to spin on dry pavement without a lot of effort. I would love to see what a quality exhaust would do for this engine.

well that wasn't you for sure. i am in the same situation. i run very light, just some STMaxx E tires on FN's, about 21lbs ea, a significant stereo setup, and probably the heaviest mod on the truck is my traction bar, so I'm basically stock light. i spun the tires three times today just tooling around town w/o trying.

btw I'm a test mule for a new exhaust later this year maybe in the Fall. i have my TRD muffler currently turned sideways to fit the trac bar. so we'll see what happens there... looking to drop both rear cats.

When do you expect the 104 will be available for the 18's?

Bradshawnh's experience mirrors my own after 20 miles. Super smooth, good power in all the right places, no weirdness be it taking off, upshifting, or downshifting.
    I'll take it! thanks Mat!!

I just got home from work and a log run. Sent the file to Matt, hopefully he can use some of the data. This trip confirms that this file has all the power where it needs to be and a much more refined throttle. Seems to be a good combination of the power of 1.03b without the twitchy throttle that some complained about. Very smooth and predictable throttle, very controllable at low speed and the fly by wire feeling is almost gone, now I need to relearn driving it Lol. Great work Matt!!!

Since my truck is modded with extra weight, larger tires and the URD Y pipe, I asked Matt if he could do a custom file for me and squeeze a little more torque/HP out of the tune based off my log file....We will see, very happy regardless.

Just got this on order, I’ve had enough of the stock tune after 4K miles. Hoping the 2018 tune is available before I receive the kit.

You are not experiencing reduced engine braking most likely. You are geared too high with the stock 4.30’s unless you’re already on 4.88’s. With the added weight of the armor, you don’t have the gearing to slow you down as much while engine braking. I thought the same until I regeared to 4.88’s. I’m on 35’s, with around 600 pounds of armor.

    04B12 checking in

Flashed 1.04A earlier and followed idle and rev instructions provided

Truck has been VERY smooth. It’s honestly kind of unbelievable compared to the stock tune and noticeably different than the previous tunes I’ve run (1.03+)

    No issues here.

After a little driving around, made a run into town to grab some things from the store. Probably about 50 miles total since flashing with a mix of highway and city driving. Everything seems good to me on my truck. Not much else to say so far.

@OVTune any chance I can get the 87 version prior to Friday? I’ll gladly be a guinea pig and if so, I’ll get it flashed and have about 1500 miles on by Monday morning (heading to overland expo west). Otherwise I’ll have to flash back to one of the other 87 tunes before I take off cuz I know there’s gonna be places between here and there I won’t find 91.

I would normally agree, but I noticed a marked difference between stock and 1.04 engine braking performance in the same day. (Stock on the way in, 1.03C a time lunch, 1.04 on the way home). I think it has something to do with this tune.

I think you need to let the tune "settle in" for a while, then re evaluate. You haven't ran any of the tunes long enough for them to finish the "learning"

Flashed 1.04 on 04B12 tonight and took it for a spin. Very smooth throttle control and power through out the gear length. No more weird stutters at 2500-3000 RPM, which was actually weird at first because I had gotten so use to the chirping. Overall, very satisfied with this over the 1.03s. I am running an AFE intake with scoop and a URD Spec-U Exhaust and they both seem to function very well with the tune. I am impressed to be able to get this type of response and acceleration out of this 3.5L.

Thank you Matt @OVTune for making me love driving my Taco all over again.

Newb yrying to get a handle on all this. Are people experiencing smoother shifting with elimination of the drive by wire feel? I have such a hard time getting a smooth shift with that driveline clunk and I feel it’s all due to rev hang and drive by wire. I have been driving a manual for over 20 years. So close to pulling the trigger but am just trying to understand. I can deal with the rest but the clunky shift is getting to me. Thanks!
