Had to fuel up the truck this evening, so I flashed the 87 tune and filled her up with 87. Can't say I notice much difference between
the 91 (was actually running 93 octane in the truck), and the 87 tune. I'll happily run the cheap stuff if the truck behaves itself.

The weather will be turning to crap around these parts for the next few days, so there will be less :bikewheelie2: and more :burnrubber:.

That's the second time I've heard someone say that about the 87 vs 91 file.

I’ll be the third. Or maybe I was the first. I don’t remember. Either way. The 87 tune is solid.

The 87 (and 91) tune are as smooth as can be. I notice zero transition now.

    Two dumb questions:
    1. Turning my AC on for evening commute vs. no AC on the morning drive and my truck felt like a totally different truck. It’s like the ECU was thinking “power on” with the AC dragging. Am I loco? Truck has about 6500 miles, I’ve had it for about 1400 so there has been much learning for it and me.
    2. Pertaining to this thread, sounds like the tune is getting very close to the sweet spot. If order is placed now, what and when does delivery of tune hardware and software look like?
    Thanks!

If you order now (I think the final day is tomorrow), you’ll get in on this batch. Otherwise you’ll be waiting til sometime in June before you can place an order.

Since 1.04A has come out - I've run about 300 miles on the 91 tune and 300+ miles on the 87 tune.

YMMV but here's what I've seen on my 04B12 - 2017 TRD OR

I've run OVT since the release of 1.03 for the MT and have run all releases since then (1.03B, 1.03C, 1.032t3, 1.04A - all 87 only except for 1.04A I've run both)

Truck is basically stock. No lift. No armor. Wheel / Tires - falken AT3W 265/70/16 on TRD Pro wheels.

I ran 1.03 for a long time and was very happy with it for being the first tune available to me. Each revision since then has improved upon the last in one way or another and I think with 1.04A, OVT has been able to take all the feedback from the previous tunes and combine that into one fantastic tune. This trucks are very complex to say the least and it has come a long way in the past 6 months.

In my experience thus far, I've noticed zero difference between the 87 and 91 tune with 1.04A. This may be my truck, conditions, driving style, etc but take it for what you will. I don't think you can go wrong either way.

The first thing I noticed after flashing, it feels very linear and predictable. There are no surges in power that were present from stock or previous tunes at 2500/3500 RPM. It will go from idle all the way up to redline and it is very smooth and consistent. I honestly never thought I'd see that with this truck but it's really great and something I think all of us have been wanting. It definitely improves the driving experience.

After putting some miles on, the next thing I've noticed, there's power from idle that there never was. There is no dead spot down low any more. The truck is able to get up and move much more than it ever has in the past year and 41,xxx miles. I usually don't run WOT so I honestly don't care about the numbers but I can assure you that the truck pulls fantastic down low now all the way to the top. Most of my driving is in the <3500 RPM range and the difference from stock to now is night and day. This honestly feels like I would have expected from the factory.

The truck also feels much more responsive now. There were a lot of arguments back and forth about throttle and response in 1.03b/c and I think OVT nailed it with 1.04A. Throttle is predictable and linear. There are no dead spots. No twitchiness. You want to go, you got it. You want to take it easy, you can do that too. The feel and drivability are fantastic now. No garbage impeding your driving experience. It feels like it "should" IMO

At this point, I think 1.04A is going make a lot of people very happy. If you've been holding out for some feedback, I'd quit waiting and start flashing. You are definitely missing out.

If I missed something or you have questions, let me know. I'll have a bunch more miles on it this weekend.

    Towing testing starts Monday.

Thanks for the detailed write up. I'm in the upcoming batch and getting very excited. Right now my truck feels like it just wants to give up on life until it hits 3500 RPMs. The fact that I can keep buying 87 is just a bonus.

Hauled about 1600lbs of steel parts 60 miles home from the laser cutter today. All parts were either on my roof rack or in the bed of the truck. 1.04a file loaded on the truck it did fantastic. 15-20 mph head wind netted me a 15 mpg for the trip according to the display numbers adjusted for my tire size.

    well!
    I only have 100 k so far.

Pretty much what positive posts have been reporting .
I have noticed it is now easier to manage the DFCO. (I still want it gone )I do not recall if this was an issue on stock tune or not but I have no interest in finding out.
    So for now :bananadance::yay:
