1.04R has been around for AT with the latest tsb for about a month now. MT hasn't gotten 1.04R yet because the tsb came a little later from Toyota so it's being released a little later for MT guys but you must have the latest tsb regardless of MT or AT

If I can get the torque back with no adverse effects, I'll take 1.04R while we wait for 1.05.

Oh and what's with the dirty slushbox posters in here? :)

I'm a bit behind, and there's hundreds of pages.. New taco owner, of course, manual trans.

I was reading about OV before I bought my truck, but didn't get in to deep.

Can anyone recap on what's to come without having to blow through pages and pages?

    Thanks!

    you don't have OV yet?

do you have the latest TSB for MT's yet? it's written incorrectly and shows in their (dealer service) system as being for AT's. not corrected yet.

do you have any driveability symptoms like rough shifting or bucking or power drops especially first to second gear?

This is why I'm posting here, thanks for asking me questions.

Just at 600mi, truck is actually feeling better with engine broke in and pcm adapting. I couldnt tell you if if has any of the newest firmware or not. I can tell you that it does drive pretty good. I do think there's room for power, but if flashing with OV won't improve the power band, I'll sit back and read away for my own knowledge.

Are there any owners here using OV to improve driveability even though it's felt OK from day one? Anyone here rigging up on a dyno and playing with tuning tables themselves?

in that case you wouldn't even bother to consider OV until 1.05 is released. the TSB referred to above upgrades your ECU base code in a way OV cannot yet. that TSB is necessary for this weekend's planned release of 1.04R... it requires the TSB, which takes your MT ECU version from whatever version to 04B13, the latest. Mat at OV is now working to create 1.05 based on the new ECU version, and says 04B13 calibration will be within 1.05. So, until 1.05 drops, you've basically got nothing to get out of it unless you seek out and upgrade with the TSB.

and by the way, the driveability issues we had that warranted this TSB for the MT folks were not subtle. they were significant driveability issues.

speaking for myself i have not seen any reports of people tweaking this tune. no tools for it. yet.

So 1.04R is basically the TSB.
