From driving before and after the TSB, I can tell the Toyota way changed more than what either TSB alludes to. I doubt it would make economic sense, from OVtune’s perspective, to make four tuning platforms for one vehicle (manual and auto for each different factory tube)

There’s tons of tunes from OV. There are like 8 different ECU code revisions plus there are 87,91,93 tunes and a few different versions of each of those.

And that’s just the third gen 3.5…

Negative. There are some people running test tunes but nothing final yet. According to alpha thread there will be some more announcements about 1.05 shortly.

If you have a dongle you can have 1.05 today.
It IS really good, especially the Full Otto tunes. But, I believe, still needs some improvement. DFCO.. rev hang.. the usual suspects. But low end torque is very definitely improved, as is overall power and drivability. I find myself downshifting another full gear in most scenarios, IE shifting to 4th where I would have used 3rd before, 6th where I would have used 4th.. 3rd is usable as low as 15... 4th 20-25, depending how you drive. It is noticeable for sure.

You can do the TSB yourself if you have Techstream.

Thats not true. I know for a fact that Techstream Ver 12.20.024 works fine with 2018's

You can flash the TSB yourself with the hardware you have, there's a whole thread on it, PM me of you need details. It's pretty easy to do if you are computer savvy.

I second this. TSB is simple to do once you have Techstream up and running. I'm on 1.05FO 93 and truck feels solid.

Hahaha right?! I meant the unlucky magority of us whom our dealers refuse to give us the TSB update because they say it’s only for AT. But when given the choice between the MT and the AT, normal to us will always be 3 pedals! :burnrubber::bananadance:

I just bought my tune and while I wait for it to arrive I wanted to get some feedback from folks on the actual installation process.

First and foremost any general advice or things to keep in mind for installing?

Second, I know you need to use a pc to load the tune. I only have a personal Mac and a work Pc. If I download the software/tune onto my work Pc will it be stuck there? If so any recommendations on a good (cheap) alternative solution? It seems some ppl are getting cheap tablets.

I use a mac with bootcamp. There’s a bunch of people that have bought cheapo laptops in the alpha thread.

Install is easy. Scary the first time but no big deal. I don’t even know how many times I’ve flashed by now with different revisions over the last year but it’s a lot. No need to worry.
