Just got OV tune 2 months ago and very pleased with the tune. Tempted to reflash back to stock just to compare the difference between the tunes. Just in time for 1.05!

Someone convince me OVTune is worth it..
    Are there significant driveability gains?
    Is 91+ octane absolutely needed?

It feels like a completely different truck. Take how you imagined the truck would be from the factory and then make it better than that and that’s OVTune.

91 isn’t necessary. I primarily run 87 in my truck.

Ive been going back and forth with myself since the week I've owned the truck, four months now. I would primarily do this for the sake of throttle response.. My main complaint! But the video on the first post here doesn't look very impressive, is it?

Honestly the videos don’t do it justice. The performance <3000 rpm is a night and day difference after tuning. I’ve been tuned about a year now and I personally think it’s worth every penny. Many others would agree like @MOC221_ and @mZiggy among others

surprised to see the question with all the talk of throttle response throughout this thread's development. but yes the throttle response is just under 12 parsecs ahead of the competition.

Does your truck have a "dead spot" when you leave from a stop and turn into traffic and it just seems to stall with traffic bearing down on your rear bumper before it picks back up? If so,the tune eliminates that and that in itself is worth the price of admission IMHO.

OK, I get it! I'm just trying to imagine how much it would be different. I'm not all up to snuff on the various tunes Toyota developed, but my truck really isn't all that bad - 04A70

At first, I did struggle at times. Especially up hills with a/c running when it was still hot out. But I chalked that up to breaking in and the pcm learning. Now, I feel as if I'm used to it. I've never driven a manual vehicle where I had to be ahead of the gas pedal. For instance, mashing the pedal to even get a decent throttle blip to rev match.

Yeah. You get used to it and it’s WAY better than the auto. The tune makes it run how it should, predictably.

Ive never driven an auto, so I can only assume what some individuals expect from them.

I need more to be convinced to rack up more debt.. Offset that with better mpg?? Lol
Could I expect better mpg still running 87? Mpg isn't a concern of mine, but would be nice to see improvement

I get 1-3 mpg better than stock. 1.05 is supposed to be the best this truck has ever seen.

Running 1.04r and prior I’ve averaged over 20 mpg (I’m mostly stock and highway miles)

I had this issue as well. After I got the free TSB, there was a significant improvement. I didn't have to be "ahead of the gas pedal" as you said, and I know exactly what you are talking about.

I'm just going to guess most people who had severe driveability issues were 2016-17.
Do you know what flash ID was used that you saw a major improvement?

It depends what ECU version they had. Seems to have been resolved once the 2016's were updated to 04B13.
