While we wait for 1.05 to come out, I’m glad to say that I just tuned my truck today! Nothing else to report really (not enough miles), but initial feel is greatly improved.

One thing I noticed (could be tune or just a grumpy truck) is that the engine doesn’t always want to turn over (has happened twice while in mountains and now once after the tune). Sounds more mechanical/fuel related than electrical, but thought I would see if anyone had experienced this (with or without the tune).

No, I don't want to jam up the system. I just offered to test for stuttering, and if he feels he needs that he'll let us know.
I will wait for custom tuning if I'm an isolated case.

    Welcome to the OV community!

I don't recall anyone relating that particular problem to the tune, it sounds like a grumpy truck (and I would know about a grumpy truck lol).

I definitely had this stock occasionally. Xcheck the condition of your battery and grounds is my only suggestion.

I did have some bad behaviour creep back in while running 04B13, although I will say it was still much better than 04B10 (mostly the improved throttle response).

I started to get the ruh-ruh-ruh when shifting into second and getting back into the gas, and some surging in the 1500-2000 range.

Did / would disconnecting the battery help at all?

I think it would, yes. Even the Manual trans trucks change as you put miles on a fresh flash/btty reset.

I just flashed to 1.04R (for TSB updated trucks) when Mat released it lol.

    Mostly stuff I built.
I know I swapped to the 91 FO tune yesterday and my truck took to it like a duck to water. Put to tanks of fuel through it yesterday. Lovin’ this iteration of the tune much smoother than 91 MA tune file on my truck. Hope the FO option stays for the new version of 1.05.

I'm coming from a different basis than you, but I did feel a slight change after 6k on the TSB tune and a battery disconnect. Given what folks have said about it settling in, it was not a drastic difference for me thankfully.

Yup, and that's what some people can't wrap their heads around when they have symptoms that others don't have. These trucks can and will behave quite differently with the same calibration/fuel (octane), and very similar environmental conditions.

I've had fixes applied to my tune files by Mat for symptoms that nearly nobody else had lol. I'm not talking about preferences either, I'm talking about things like bad stuttering under specific conditions (load/RPM).

Note that my truck also stuttered from the factory on 04B10. Yes, I've replaced my CKP...

The Toyota Way got lost in there somehow. That might have been why the partial fixes took so long to be released?

    Perhaps.

One theory about why the factory tune felt so "drunk" is that Toyota ran into these problems as well, and decided to mask them. If you dumb it all down, well the problem trucks won't be so loud in the crowd of Tacos lol.

Very possible. I don't recall seeing much about it, but I also wonder about hardware changes being rolled in?

This is possible, but I would think it would throw some chaos into their supply/manufacturing chain. Lol, it doesn't seem any of this has hurt Taco sales, so no need to go through the motions..

They are certainly raking it in. It is amazing how many I see rolling around.

There isn't really any other viable alternative to the Taco..... The new Ranger is a joke IMHO. People are finding that after a few years, Nissan really hasn't improved the quality of their vehicles (Frontier), and the Colorado isn't any better (or much of a truck for that matter). I don't even count the Honda Ridgeline as a truck, it's just a minivan with the back hacked off and turned into a bed.

Appreciate the input. Will have to keep an eye on her.

Will do, though I don’t think it was a battery problem because you could hear everything try to turn over. It sounded almost similar to my old quad when the engine would get flooded. Once it did turn (I just let it sit for 30 sec to a min), you could hear the engine struggle to make the first couple of cycles (kind of like a cold engine, but worse).
