I'm not sure where that connection was made. Do you have a quote from Mat?

I can't think of any mechanical reason why rev-hang and engine braking behavior would be linked on the 2GR or any engine.

If I'm not mistaken, the rev hang is associated with DFCO, I might have understood wrongly though. I know it's responsible for the leap at low rev while engine braking, but I may or may not have read that it was also causing the rev hang on both upshifts and downshifts. I'll look for a quote.

Nope. It’s just another bogus emissions thing.

Ok, but that quote (to me) doesn't seem to support the notion that removing or greatly reducing rev hang will also eliminate engine braking. Let the rpm drop naturally when you lift, and don't open the throttle artificially as the rpms fall. I'd love to see this tested.... and I would gladly do it.

I'm not trying to start a huge debate here, but I read Mat's comment as two separate issues.

DEFCO is vehicle speed/rpm based . Yes, it makes zero sense. I get why fuel is cut, but at the same time the throttle plate is artificially held open (killing engine braking, and another post that I'm too lazy to go back and find)

Rev hang is artificially holding RPMs when you shift above a certain threshold RPM (as I interpret the quote from Mat above).

In both cases it is the ECU holding the throttle plate open, but the circumstances are different. I don't believe eliminating rev hang and improving DEFCO are mutually exclusive. I am sure with enough digging into the code both can be improved without reducing engine braking. The hope is to do this AND get more engine braking.

Yeah I see why I'm all mixed up, he kind of always talk about them in the same post. I'll have to remove my strikethrough lol

No debate to be held here.

I’ve decided to give 91fob on 93 fuel a try. Agreed it’s the best combo yet.

Out of curiosity has anyone tried running 89 or even 91 octane on the 87 fob tune? I don't want to have to run premium fuel all the time, and my old 4.0 seemed to do a little better on 89 as far as mpg, thinking that it would also lessen the chance of any preignition on this engine as i do tend to lug it pretty hard wheeling sometimes.

I run 87 and typically run higher fuels if available. Truck has always seemed happier even on the stock tune doing so

    Non ethanol fuel helps too

It stays locked physically but you do have to press the button or it fails safely into "unlock" when the truck is restarted.

O3 Tacoma. Manual hubs Bilstein 5100 in OME 885 springs. Rear Wheeler off road 5 leaf springs. Northwest trails innovation winch bumper & 10k winch. TRD rear elocker and front 7.5 truetrac limiter slip. Built 2.7 3rz, balanced, 1mm bored, 9.75-1 compression, LC cam, 1mm oversized valves, LC 35 lb flywheel & LC clutch, ported head, balance shaft delete, bored throttle body, header & 2.5” exhaust.
I’m not sure if this is accurate. It was doing the rear one wheel peel like a boss. After I had locked the rear. As I was outside running the winch throwing a big boy tantrum.

Btw I may dump this Tacoma Pro and go the Chev Colorado Bison route. Diesel plus front & rear lockers and winch ready right out of the gate. Sorry Toyota get your asses in gear and give us a Diesel Tacoma already.... and a front locker!!

Right, Lock it, shut it down, restart it, and as soon as you throttle it unlocks, unless you hit the lock button again after restarting.

I'm curious as well, but Mat had to deal with a couple of douche nozzles in the Alpha thread. Personally, I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt this week lol.

Check out our blog post for all "universal" updates (both transmissions)

There are some more things I am considering, but wanted to actually ask you guys first.

Unfortunately the MT truck doesn't have a ECT button, so I'm limited on user inputs to make things happen inside the code.

However one thing I considered was Setting up an all new map under 4H

Basically, when you put the truck in 4Low, it will use a different set of tune tables entirely. Since there is no "shifting" to worrying about getting in the way of setting up maps, we can setup something like this below.
Whenever the truck is setup in 4H, it will use a different tune setup.

    Nice!

I got space for a button:

I've been slacking on some planned mods, but a sweet OVT button would be hilarious. Or, maybe a button that has this on it:
