I've been considering this for my '17, but I'm not sure I'm convinced it's worth $800 based on a tuner experience I had with my RAM 1500.

I had the HemiFever tunes for the RAM and to be honest, I never felt that it was a marked difference from stock. The RPMs did idle a little higher and the trucked revved faster. It also made it sound a little better. But I can't say I ever felt it was worth the cost over stock. I read so many reviews that praised those tunes and stated how beastly it made the truck. Those were gross overstatements based on my experience.

However, I never felt the RAM had poor drivability like the stock Taco. The reason I tuned the RAM was for faster acceleration and more power. My expectation is pretty much the opposite for the Tacoma. I'm looking to get more drivability, smoothness, and linear power delivery without all the surging. It just gives me pause when people start throwing superlatives out there and say how they can smoke the tires after the tune or can barely accelerate now without the tires wanting to break loose. I've also read some pretty even keel reviews that appear to be more in-line with what I've experienced with tuners.

So, anyone here that has had 1.03 for awhile. Does the tune provide $800 worth of improvement in your opinion? Anyone regret the purchase? Are the differences night and day noticeable to you or do you just "think" it feels better than stock?

Yes. I recently flashed back to stock just to gauge the difference to make sure I wasn't crazy and the suck that is the stock tune reared it's ugly head and validated my $800 purchase.

I have the 1.03 test tune. Unfortunately I have a 04B10 ecu so no timing adjustment. The 04B11 and 12's ecu tunes have timing adjustment so compared to them we are down on power. Anyway better then stock...

Yeah there's no question that during every day driving there's a HUGE benefit. What OVTune said about most gains being midrange so they don't pan out in a 0-60 test makes sense. Try flooring it in 3rd gear going 25 mph though and see which one is faster to 60. I bet the tuned truck is a second quicker on that run at minimum

I don't know if I'd call 1 second quicker to 60 when flooring it in 3rd gear a "HUGE" benefit. Especially for $800. I know there is only so much benefit a tune can provide and it sounds like this one might be about on par with ones I've had on other vehicles. My guess is that it probably does make a slight difference, but not drastically so. I'll probably get it at some point though since even a slight improvement would be nice on this truck.

The difference is drastic, I drove stock and tuned back to back Saturday. There is simply more, smoother power everywhere in the rev range.

What DID you expect? A second quicker to 60 for an engine/power mod is a huge gain. Normally youd have to buy either a supercharger or pay to regear to get anywhere near that kind of benefit but I guess thats just my .02 on the matter!

EDIT: also, the huge benefit is NOT the fact that its faster per-se. I would say the HUGE benefit is that in daily driving everything is easier to do and requires less throttle to accomplish. Its just a less strenuous and anxiety-provoking kind of thing to drive overall, to some that alone is worth 800.

WAIT.. You mean it's NOT just placebo effects and confirmation bias driving your enthusiastic statement? SAY IT AIN'T SO

Lol, the naysaying experts in other threads can suffer their stock tunes if they see fit.. I'm never going back.

I would have traded my truck if not for OVTune - the $800 made me enjoy driving the truck and saved me thousands I'd lose on trading a year-old truck... FWIW

This has probably been answered in here somewhere but its hard searching through 60 pages. I really like all the positive reviews for this product and am tempted to get this product. Does this tune void the warranty? Can you switch it back to stock tune then warranty is ok? Will Toyota notice it was a fresh flash for the stock tune when they check codes if you want them to warranty something?

I was in the process.. I was offered $30K for a trade in on a frontier pro-4x M/T. Then I stumbled on this thread a little after 1.03c was released and read the overwhelmingly positive feedback.

Just got notification today with the tracking number. Can't wait.
