Yeah this is definitely the closest we've come, as a thread, to truth here. Anybody here looking for an opinion should look no further than post 1177 and what @Shellshock said

The problem is all the former ricers now driving tacomas hear the word "tune" and they expect 450HP and fart sounds from the exhaust. There are 60 pages on this thread and 2 other threads explaining what this tune does and there are people on here that still can't see past the word "tune."

Facts. Additionally, it's important to note that MOST of the time a stock car gets tuned it's because it's got a turbo and tuning it can actually give real gains by running the turbo harder. A naturally aspirated motor tune doesn't do nothing, but it's not about gains as others have stated, it's about getting to the point where you feel confident in the vehicle enough to floor it more often and trust the truck to do it's job

This isn’t a tune ladies and gentleman.
This is a FIX for Toyota’s shitty ECU maps.
This reflash will increase throttle response and provide more usable power throughout the power band. This will also help with shifting and drivability.

Notice I did not say anywhere in there that there are serious HP/TQ gains.
For those treating this like a tune this is a damn truck NA motor!
There are a few out there who keep picking this apart and analyzing this like somehow this is going to change.

    It’s not.

I think most understand it's a general driveablity tune rather than a power tune. The question, at least for me is, how dramatically does it change driveability and responsiveness?

All the crap people complain about with these trucks, less the rev hang, it gets fixed with the OVTune. The most noticeable thing is the smooth power band and increased torque in the lower RPMs. I can personally attest to the fact that my truck feels like stock power the day I drove it off the lot and I am now on 35's, stock gears for now, fully armored, and carry a RTT full time. I can accelerate in 6th gear on the highway from 75 mph to 90 mph without hesitation or the feel of lugging. Before the tune, I couldn't get from 60 to 70 in 6th gear. So, yeah, the difference is pretty dramatic. I can't even begin to image the difference once my 4.88's get installed.

You couldn't get from 60 to 70 in 6th? The truck wouldn't accelerate and you had to shift to 5th? My stock truck accelerates fine from 60 to 70 in 6th.

I think anyone with half a brain knows you're not going to get serious power out of a "tune" on a NA vehicle. For me it is not about the end power numbers, it's about having a more finalized tune, one that doesn't degrade over time, one that has been fine tuned and I can feel confident with installing on my truck. Until the rev hang is fixed or is proven it can be fixed, I don't see it being worth $800 but that's just me. From the outside looking in it seems OVTune is all over the place and I don't see much getting done anytime soon with this, but again that's just my view from the outside and have no proof, I hope I am wrong.

Valid point. Either way, it's still extremely gay.

I’ve noticed zero degradation in the 1600 miles I’ve run 1.03. I don’t notice the rev hang near like I did before. In a few short months we went from no hope of having a fix for the drivability of the new 3.5 to where we are today. There are always further refinements and enhancements that can be made and will come over time but I can say I’m very happy with where things are right now. It’s more than enough to hold me over while development continues. Today it’s already a vast improvement over stock and will only get better as time goes on (and those updates are free)
