I test drove a 2009 ACLB 5MT with 110,000mi on it. I really liked it. It didn't feel greatly different than the V6s in the bottom end or every day driving. It just didn't have much more if jumping on it.

Business in front, party in the back. :D

That just speaks volumes to how neutered our 2GR engines are.

I sampled that in a Corolla rental. It was fine in an AT. I do like that it doesn't cancel CC in an MT.

Still just not my thing, as I grow attached to MTs in a way that I cannot with ATs. We generally hold on to cars for at least 10yrs, but I plan on keeping the Taco much longer. So the desire for simplicity and less troubleshooting down the road are key for me.

Again, I'm not bashing anyone for going the 2018+ route. Just not for me. The 2020 isn't tempting me away, and I will still track the 2023 model to see what happens.

Yeah. Odds are my 17 won’t go away. Unless someone makes me a stupid offer on it I can’t refuse

I was going to add to the post (but didn't) that I also test drove a 2007 ACLB V6 MT with 141k. Twice. I really wanted it, but the price was just too high. There were minor differences at the bottom end compared to the 3rd Gens, but it sure was lackluster up top. I get that the stock tune sucked nuts, esp 04B10 / 04B11, and mine is sort of an oddball on the good side. But, I feel that all four that I drove (2nd Gens and 3rd Gens) had the same character. Sort of why I don't get the Sport versus OR debates that rage. They are all very capable and close to each other.

As my personal opinion, I will say that the 3.5l with OVT is at least equivalent to the 4.0l off idle and smokes it the higher the revs climb. I know that the higher RPMs have been proven in stock form on TFL.

I do hope that you discover the same with your new 2019. I can also say that I would have the same opinions as you, if I went through the hell that you did with Ginger.

Maybe I am too new to this tune to complain, but I am in love with my 1.05 87 FOB tune after 2 full days of driving. Feels like much more power available in every gear, even 6th! Maybe thats just better throttle response, but I really am enjoying it.

I guess the only thing I can critique at this time is how the "2nd gear surge" is still there in the 3k-4k rpm range.

Ha! My wife laughs about that. Somehow it came up about cold offers and such. I said it would have to be at least $45k, knowing that it sounds pretty stupid. But, I say something just as stupid about my bike: $15k though it is probably worth less than $1.5k whole.

I missed the 4.0 for quite a while but with the current tune, that’s no longer the case

Friday after a few beers thought process: GOD DAMMIT I'm gonna hafta do the ADM again lol.
I ain't taking that shit off of my '16. The accumulator was corroded, and is still a curiosity on my bench for some ppl. Meh, the new owner will be blissfully unaware that their clutch works much better than stock!

AHH brand new fittings/bolts and such. Hell yeah.
