All depends on your demand after the shift, your weight ,trailer, incline ,decline etc .your most efficient shift will be just before the engine lugs.(hence this is partly why the modern multi gear ATs are able to beat the Manuals in Feul efeicency)i like to keep it a tad higher than that point as I would rather spend a little more on fuel than over work the engine.

Can we talk about the FOB Tune?

Is there risk to the bottom end with the FOB tune?

What is the static compression ratio of our 3.5 L engine?

Does FOB tune eliminate "Atkinson cycle" completely? At idle?

The area that FOB affects is low engine speeds and for the most part, part throttle. In my mind that is zero risk. Probably a zero delta over dipping into the pedal for the same power?

It was said that there is a bit of Atkinson left in FOB, but not much.

Attached are most of the details on the engine. There are graphics in there for both Atkinson and ACIS. 1.05 FOB mainly plays with Atkinson. The 2.0 Betas also play with ACIS, moving the switchover lower in the rev range which was said to be the cause of the torque hit at 3,500rpm.

In the end given all the weirdness in the stock tunes, I believe that OVT is better for the engine long term. Regardless, the engine design is solid and there are a lot of miles being racked up with only one or two odd posts here on TW. Compared to mechanical problems posted, collisions seem to be a bigger worry overall?

Also, note that the Atkinson cycle on this engine is simulated due to the VVTi-W system.

My schtupid fone I can't see the attachment. Will check it later on the PC

I'm not concerned off idle. What is driving this are the early death of Chrysler product high static compression ratio engines at idle and or engines such as in police cars that idled a ton. Basically lots of crank rod bearing failures. Off idle is not as hard on these bearings.

But back these engines did not have anything sophisticated about valve timing. Also they had shit lubricants and more sloppy tolerances due mainly to looser process capabilities.

It's a nice PDF that gets into the engine details.

For idling, I generally don't let mine idle long (mostly stoplights than anything else) and warm it up by driving. I can say for certain that each OVT tune load has made the engine idle smoother. With this last Beta (21175), it takes it to another level. Initially, I checked to see if the motor was running on a couple occasions. I was a noticeable change, or I guess, not.

I owned one Chrysler product and that was enough for me. It seems that the trend as continued with FCA. They just not on the same level as the Japanese manufacturers.

I believe he dropped a hint in the dev page. Here it is:
A91B51FF-31C0-44CA-B1A4-9955CB44FDD0.jpgdose this looks familiar to you?
If your close by consider offering to test your truck in his new up coming location, logging in some dyno time will give him a quick comparison to his incoming TRD pro MT. You would be helping your MT brothers here get the best tuned files. Just a thought.....;)

Nice detective work. If that's true, it is a long way from where I live (about 5 hours southwest), but only a little over an hour from where me son goes to school... hmmmm...

I'm a return customer and a fan of my first tune on my 2nd gen. I wasn't trying to slight the quality of the product.

Man I got that to open on my phone. Wow. 10000000% awesome document. That thing answered an absolute metric ass ton of questions. And rather quickly killed off some bad thoughts and running rumors. I recommend ALL Tacoma owners read the fuel delivery section as a minimum.

you are really on a roll with the memory today. You must be breathing too many exhaust fumes in the big city or something lol

A couple genius OVT'ers asked for a tune that cut out the Atkinson cycle. We were gifted the FOB tunes. Full-Otto 1.05B. It was said that a very small bit of Atkinson remains, but the TQ hit just off idle was  .

Now, we have Version 2.0 Beta files that are just about as good with many other big and good changes, mainly absolutely smooth acceleration from idle to 6,900rpm and improved shifting for the MTs.

The AT got a Performance tune, but I do not know if that is FO or some other voodoo.

Something is a bit off. Not being able to search convos when in doubt is a big part of it though. I prefer search skills over memory. :D

Country air would help. Or, maybe it is that axle dump? :bananadead:

:anonymous: I forgot that was in the request also.

The Auto-Blip Horde is ready to take over.

Hey, @MOC221_ did you ever get that Auto-Blip test file. :poking:
