Sounds like the truck is literally retarding timing to combat the K word, I'd flash back to 1.5 instead of torturing your truck like that... it is a test file after all

Not sure about the timing retard, but 1.05 FOB 91 does similar shit (stutters) on my '19 (04B41)...

    Unicorn checking in here.

The only oddness that I have experienced is weird MPGs on the last Beta and some valve pings on hot days. The pings were there on the 04B13 also, so NBD.

Imagine a world where two 3rd Gens behave the same.

Didn't we discuss the valve pings being the self cleaning injectors?

LOL still searching for THAT world. Mine is showing some bad rev hang, particularly when shifting between 4k and 5k. If i wait until after 5500 almost no rev hang, and below 4k is similar, but that range is BAD for rev hang.

The diesel noise at idle, sure.

Mine is definitely valve train. Hot days, low RPMs, and steady speeds. On the stock tunes and OVT pre-Reset buttons in FM, if I dipped into or out of the throttle, I would get a set of three pings. They reminded me of valve pings from the old days with high engine loads. After doing the Resets, the pings happen in the same conditions, but only while backing off of the throttle. It would be cool to log, but it is something that is really hard to reproduce and very unlikely now with the weather. I don't feel that three pings from time to time are a problem, esp when letting off the throttle.

The funny part is, since I recognized it in my engine, I heard it a few times this summer from other cars next to me.

    Sorry about that!

For me, rev hang was noticeably improved on the TSB tune. Since flashing to OVT, I have not been annoyed by it that I can recall.

I could be wrong, but I believe the full version of 2.0 is supposed to address it?

Man now we're off the rails, valve ping? I've never heard that term, I've gotten into this before but any ping knock pink pang detonation ding dong shing bang is the same shit. And it isn't good, especially if it's happening regularly.

We could argue whether it's worse at low or high rpm, but this isn't an old chevy v8 where it can be ignored...

Edit - the sound "ping" is similar to hitting the block with a hammer, and that's basically what's happening, but from inside the engine... and doesn't come from the valve train

Sorry about the derail. It is not a regular thing. Only very hot days (for here) and only in certain situations as described. It doesn't sound like a hammer. More of a chatter. It was definitely louder on the TSB tune and very early on the first 2.0 Beta. With all the OV tunes, it was generally quiet but recognizable.

If I could get it to happen on command, I would log it.

My bad, that wasn't clear. Issues with the tune are not derails, I was saying I'm about to take us off into la la land discussing terminology

The short hesitations (in quick succession) or "stuttering" was my pet peeve when I owned the Ginger. Almost every version of the tune did it in one form or another. The only exceptions were 1.01b(IIRC), one of Mat's test tunes, 1.04, and 2.0 Beta 87 for 04B13.

No clatter, no weird noises whatsoever. Just felt like a miss.

In my case, that didn't help.

You may not have stuttering regardless... some have it no matter what they do.

If you're speaking of knock, well yes that may indeed help

You're asking the wrong guy :notsure:

All I can tell you is when I was logging some of this stuff for Mat back in the 1.03 - 1.04 days, I wasn't seeing misfires under those conditions when the stuttering was taking place.

it's a good question with no answer. but leave it up to Tony to come up with something to stir the pot!

LoL! I am excited to see what drops. This is what has been chatted up:

    -- 2.0 full release
-- Tune Editing for Flash Kits and HHs
    -- Tune switching for everyone
    -- 2.0 blog update
    -- 2020 tunes
-- All the ECU, gearing, and feature configs that go with that
-- A newb to handle the goons
-- Turning ordering on again after a big break and build up
-- And the special surprise he mentioned a couple times with no details

    Easy! :D

haha. I am still waiting on my clutch pedal to start squeeking again so I can show it to a tech at Toyota and finally get this pedal and MC replaced under the TSB. Which also gives me the opportunity to have them reflash my ECU from 04A70 to 04A71.

I am getting really tired of this truck and it's Jeckel and Hyde mood swings. Sometimes it will drive flawlessly, power through the whole rev range and shifts will be perfect crisp and buttery smooth... Others every shift feels different, I get clunks with the clutch in and I shift 1-2 or 2-3, the clutch pedal feels like the pedal assembly and MC is lubed with gravel and I get stutters and a deadspot at 40 shifting 3-4.
