The gear specific tunes are for autos. It adjusts shift points. Not necessary for the manual.

Ah that makes sense. I thought it may have something to do with the speedo.

Whats the difference between the blank file and the catted file?

Just speculating, but gear/tire size changes COULD mess with the per gear table setup Mat mentioned was in the OEM calibration... not an issue if 2.0 has single torque table..

To what extent it COULD mess with it I haven't a clue..

Blank file is for stock trucks. Cat and decat are for the OVT dump tubes.

I don't believe so as this is more about TC partial and full lockup, shift tables, and other slushbox goofiness. In my mind, only an MT 5.29 tune would be needed to overcome the lowered speedo limiter.

I hear you on the A/T goofiness, and I'm just speculating...
My mind comes back to this - in a M/T, how does the ECU know which gear you're in? The wiring to the transmission only "reads" reverse and neutral with simple switches AFAIK.

Speed and engine RPM are the two variables that I can think of for the ECM to "guess" which gear you're in.

Yes. That is my speculation also. This is stupid as fuck in an MT when engine table choices are probably flipping like crazy during shifts with that flowchart from hell. Most of that logic usually depends on a fully engaged clutch to determine the actual ratio (reactionary). Stuff like that exists for gear indicators. It is a popular mod on motorcycles.

The ECU might use the clutch switches as sensors to maybe hold a certain table (previous gear??) until the fully engaged switch is sensed.

Either way, this might be why some folks feel the shifts for certain gears are clunkier than others?

Still, I don't see a 4.88 or 5.29 tune helping with this. Just a single map that gives consistency at the critical phase when the clutch is in use.

I will say that for me, all cluckiness was gone with the TSB tune and to some extent the ADM.

    Yep.

...and probably a big reason why the throttle can be soo unpredictable.

The noted changes for 2.0 should flesh that out.

BTW, fucking FOB DFCO is still killer! :D And worthy to include for now as a half measure, IMVHO.

I watched a video of an AT owner with 5.29s he was at 75mph @ 2500 rpm. The stock MT does 75mph at 2500rpm.

I am curious as to what the driving experience is like with 4.88s on an MT.

Well, even without a shred of experience I can tell you that the driving experience IN REVERSE will be improved.

I hear you on that. Going uphill in reverse is very tricky. Dang near have to dump the clutch 3k.
