Ok, I’m going to go lay out my cut line, which one did y’all go with, the one on this forum or the one from SSO.

This one looks like the tape is folded down a good bit on the front which will of course leave more of the plastic vs the next pic.

This one from SSO has the tape level with the entire front edge. This will remove more material from the plastic part.

Well just a quick update, the cut is done, everything the instructions says to remove is piled up in my garage and I’m at a point where it says to start installing the new bumper but I don’t have a floor jack here so this will happen tomorrow I hope. One thing I have yet to do is remove the grill and unless it’s impossible to get the wiring done without removing it I’m not going to.

The install is finally done, just used a floor jack and it’s wasn’t to bad. I do have a few suggestions for SSO on their instruments and with a few changes they may not scare a few people off with what all they are telling you to remove. #1 No need to remove or even loosen the fenders and #2 I can’t see why everyone is removing the grill, didn’t touch mine and had no issues. I am just into the 3rd hour and all I like is the final wiring for the light bar. Everyone that saw this absolutely loves the way it looks!

Can you post a pic of the gap please? What cutting guide method did you go with? Nice job!

In my post 925 above, I used the modified method and taped it just like the tape is in the first pic. Had I used the SSO method I would of removed way to much material and it would of left a gap I would not of been happy with. If I was doing another one I would go even more than the 3/8 modified line that’s shown down the sides. You can take more off later but you can’t put it back on. The 3/8 modification would be the bare minimum.

The tape line does work great for the top of the bumper as any more material up there would of hit my bar so that line is great. I wish SSO would come up with a guide that you lay down, mark or something, would really help everyone out.

I’m at work and will try to grab a few pics with my real camera when I get in and get them posted.

If your using a Smittybuilt X20C winch you have to mount the control pack over to the side and not over the center. Also route the wiring to the left as much as you as they will be very tight if you don’t. Pics to follow.

    Just ordered a Gen3
SSO TACOMA SLIMLINE HYBRID FRONT BUMPER!
has anyone installed one of these SSO's in the last two years since this earlier post? Be interested to hear how the cutting was done.

I did one a few months ago and did the modified cut line that’s shown in this thread and wish I’d even left more at the end of the day but I’m still happy with it though. I’d posted earlier that if I had it to do over with I’d leave a bunch more material and trim as I was installing. It would be a bigger pain especially where I was by myself.

One thing I never figured out during the install is everything SSO wants you to remove. I didn’t take anything off or even loose that wasn’t staying off. I did not even remove the grill.

    Resqu2,

Thanks for the heads-up. That would be my philosophy too. You can always trim more... but, ya can't put back! I'm gonna find a custom shop somewhere here in NH.

I was quoted $500 and wasn’t paying that. It literally took me 3.5-4 hours by myself. Get it quoted and if it’s crazy high don’t do it. I will send you my number and can send ya some closeup pics and help any way I can. If you look at the SSO instructions it looks hard but none of that stuff needs to come off, not even the grill.

Mine has a wireless controller but you would have to open the hood to engage/free spool. I don’t mind as it may never be used.

@Resqu2 out of curiosity how long was it from order date to delivery? I’m 6 weeks into it, but I’ve spent 5 at “Materials Ordered”, which seems like a long time.

My order day was Jan 21st and I got it on April 3 so I guess it was starting into 11 weeks. Mine sit in material ordered forever but when it started moving it went pretty quick, sometimes they don’t update each step and when you check it a few steps are done that wasn’t the day before. It’s worth the wait.
