The go 2 choices seem to be toyota factory b.e, or the amp research one which makes toyotas anyway. Only difference is price and branding. Heres a couple pics of mine to help.

This is the model # to the oem one that I like most. PT392-35120 They are $360 at the dealer and $217 shipped on eBay.

I really like the amp research because they have it available in black. But when I look at the specs, it says they only fit up to year 2014. Has anyone gotten one for a 2016?

When this is deployed on your 6 foot bed can you lay-down a 4x8 sheet of plywood in the bed?

I'm going to guess that you won't be able to lay it firmly on the bed, but very close. You'll just have to have some of it lay on the bed extender for transportation.

Does anyone know of a bed extender that attaches to and slides along the bed rails?

I need a bed extender for my truck, and this 'D' shaped one won't work for me as I will be loading 2 motorcycles and the tires won't clear the extender. Do they still make that older design?

There are little feet on the top and bottom of the bed extender, they are plastic and might break if u lay ply across. There are notches above the bed cubbyholes for a 2x6 to lay flat. This will allow a sheet to be laid on the wheel wells and the 2x6, flush!

I had the same issue with the one that came on my 2016. I picked up an old style one on Craigslist and it dropped right in perfectly. I think it was from a 2009.

From what I was told they had to re-design them because the older ones blocked the tail lights. Not sure how true this is as this is my first one and for what I'm doing it'll be fine. Just got mine on Ebay for $200.00 with free shipping.

The factory one is great. I have had other extenders for other trucks and this one is the best so far for these reasons...
    1. The lightest and yet strong
    2. Install/removal the easiest of them all
    3. You can leave it in your open bed without worrying about it being stolen. All you need to do is lock your tail gate and the extender cannot be removed.

Anybody load 2 sport bikes on the SB with the new 'D' style tail gate extender?

Do you remember what happens when you assume?

There is baseless assumption, and there is an educated guess. From what i've read, only the shape of the extender is restyled, and the mounts/mount points are the same.

Now while I can't prove that the mounts and mount points are the same (since I don't have both kits in front of me) I am assuming base on my research and hopefully someone can help whom did have both extenders.

Of course I welcome all comments from the peanut gallery as well. So thanks for that.

Stanley ...or can I call you Stan? Here is why I would be concerned. So much has changed (regarding dimensions) from the 2015 to the 2016 model. The bed itself is not the same. All of the tonneau cover manufacturers had to make changes too. So, although it MAY be the same, one cannot be sure.
