Again, who says they won't. Not sure why some insist on gravitating towards negativity when we don't even have any info.

Did I miss the press release where Toyota said they would NOT offer a diesel or V8?

Because the Tacoma now uses a ladder unibody frame based off of the MDX and the bed is integrated with the body? Obviously this is not the case.

So if your only argument is that a 3.5l displacement motor has been chosen it will now become just like the Ridgeline is totally ludicrous and moronic at the same time.

Don't be shocked to see the 4Runner with the same motor down the line.

I don't I how you can say it's getting a minivan engine, crappy engine, not a real engine, or whatever. I certainly don't understand how you think it will have less torque than the 1grfe. Do you think toyota is plum stupid? I bet my next paycheck each number, hp, tq, and mpg are noticeably increased. You're delusional.

Like I said before, if they can make them faster AND more fuel efficient w/a V6 why are you still fixated on a V8?

I said in a special edition model. for all the racers out there...so it would already have the extra power before modding. I never said in regular trucks.... just in one like the xrunner.

So I guess you have a lot of miles behind the 3.5 In a taco to say it is just fine?

It was in the live question chat with the engineers

No diesel option , didn't make economic sense for the Tacoma platform

I would buy a V8 Tacoma if such as option was offered. Most people I know with a Dodge Dakota have a V8. Chevy didn't offer a V8 in the Colorado until the last couple years of production. By then, the reputation of that truck was garbage though.

I get what you meant. Doesn't change my statement.

In that case see all of my previous comments re: a diesel power plant in a Tacoma.

This is completely ridiculous, I am from South America and there we had the 4.5L for the FJ70 land cruiser, engine proven to be very reliable, that engine was replaced for the 1GR-FE and the 1GR-FE is a 4.0L, does it make less torque? NO! does it make less HP? NO! as a matter of fact it makes more HP and torque than the inline 6 4.5L. The fact of the matter is that technology makes it possible to use smaller but more powerful engines, you guys are not looking also at the new automatic and manual transmissions offered, change in ratios! etc.

I am sorry but in my humble opinion those of you claiming the truck is going to suck for half a litter are just crazy

I have a cousin with a v6 Dakota.... it is SLOW AND WEAK... my brother has an older v8 Dakota, and it was fast enough.

Bingo. Complaining about engine specs that don't even exist. You have to be gifted to do such a thing.

So they added a V8 option & discontinued the entire truck line when it did nothing for sales. Thanks for making my point.

Smaller engine has to rev higher to make the same numbers as a larger displacement engine, to a certain extent. No power adders, turbo, supercharger, on this engine means it has to depend on revs to get any real power flowing to the transmission. Might get better mpg's, go faster to 60, but work, truck duties, fail.

I have a v6 Tacoma that I don't think is either slow or weak , but I've watched 800hp v6 hybrids that were really fast , faster than the 800hp v8 naturally aspirated versions , not sure what point you are trying to make here

There's entirely too many variables for this to even be presented as evidence.

The argument of 6cyl v 8cyl is silly. There are 6cyl WAY more powerful than some 8cyl. This is why the statement "No replacement for displacement" is idiotic thinking from the 50's that people parrot because they heard their grandpa parrot once.

If they can make a 6 cylinder engine that makes as much power as the current V8 options they have why would you still not be happy with that?

Nothing would have helped that truck with sales in the last couple years. If you don't want a V8 midsize truck, that's fine. Doesn't mean everyone has to agree with you.
