Well as promised in the dyno thread I put my 2016 TRD Tacoma V6 mt back on the dyno to see if there was any power to be had by adding an intake. I did some base line runs again since several weeks had passed since it was last on the dyno and the temperature was different. Comparing base line from this time to base line from last time showed some small changes. The intake tube and filter were quickly switched out and several more runs were made. To my amazement there was actually some power to had and I really liked the way it made the truck sound. Here is the video I put together. I'm having some fun with this video editing stuff so take it easy on me LOL.

Pictured below is a dyno plot comparing the previously posted dyno numbers (from my "2016 Tacoma Dyno Time" thread) compared to my base line runs prior to installing the intake. I'm glad i did these base lines because there was a few differences probably due to the different weather conditions vs last time. IMG_1359web.jpg

Here is the dyno plot of the Intake and filter vs my baseline from the same time.IMG_1358web.jpg

Long story short it made a difference HP and TQ and the truck sounds better IMHO. So I like it. I've been keeping tabs on gas mileage since buying the truck so I'm going to see how it changes fuel mileage over the next couple weeks and will post up the results

Good post! At what elevation level and temperature did you make these runs? And when you say intake tube and filter, does it mean full cold air intake?

so you lost some bottom end and gained some top end. it would be interesting to see what a good tune would do for this truck with some 93 in it

Thanks! Not cold air. Uses OEM intake filter box. The OEM box draws air in from outside the engine bay so it would be tough to beat that with a cold air aftermarket option. Just a better flowing filter and a tube with no restrictions.

Yeah, we have plans to "attempt" a tune on this truck. I agree it would be very interesting and based on what we have been seeing with all these dyno runs there is good potential to make some improvements. Yeah the 93 alone would be good. I swear I heard some pinging occasionally during some of the runs and that would explain the random drops in power every once in a while. I'm running the cheapest fuel I can find now lol.

What about a performance exhaust? This seems to be where more top end could be achieved in my opinion.

Isn't the test run indoors? So the temperature shouldn't be a factor here. Or were the doors open allowing cold air inside the building.

The only thing that really concerns me about this intake is that it removes the intake box that Toyota designed to help with the Atkinson cycle in the engine..

If you read up on the Prius intake system, that box is there for a solid reason.

Looks like he only replaced the tube, the box looks like every other taco
    intake box has for years.

    all tore up already
Since the manifolds integrated into the heads, i dont see an exhaust making a big difference in anything but sound

    Bone Stock thus far...
Been keeping track of the previous Dyno posts and now this one... Read another string speaking to the aforementioned request to do some runs on 93 octane.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...hp-6400rpm-and-280lb-ft-4800rpm.387336/page-3

In that discussion, the fact that the new ES350 runs the same new 2GR-FKS engine but lists it's HP at 311 and TQ at 280. In the 2'nd gen owners manual it stated very clearly that the truck was safe to operate on 87 octane but would perform better on 91. I'm almost certain that this would be the case with this engine as well. Hoping Redbusket can confirm my "butt dyno's" suspicion on this!

Thanks for all your time invested too!
