I am having a problem with my 2016 Tacoma V6 TRD Sport 6 speed that I hope someone has an answer for as the local dealer has no clue and can not identify the problem.
As I am entering the interstate and accelerating on the entry ramp I notice that the truck feels like the choke is stuck or the engine is cold. It is also very noticeable if I short shift 1st or 2nd gear and accelerate hard in second or third, and even into the higher gears.
Anyone have this problem or have any suggestions.

    Maybe your clutch is slipping.

No, not slipping clutch - it feels exactly like a stuck choke on a carbureted car.

I've had this happen a couple of times to me. 6 speed M/T.

I complain about this truck to my wife a lot. The second time it happened she was in the truck with me when we were accelerating up to speed getting on the freeway. Immediately she turned to me and said, "what the hell was that?!!"

Can you describe this better? The only issue I have had, sometimes when I shift (3 to 4 usually), the truck like jerks (I actually move forward like the brakes were touched). I can't get it to do it on command, and sometimes question if it's just my shifting and clutching causing it, although never had something like this happen with other manuals which is all I have owned since 1996.

Can't describe much better - it feels like the engine is cold and hesitates when accelerating, but it is at full operating temp. I have never had this problem with any other Tacoma I have owned and I have had 5 of them.

The best description for me is the hesitation.

Is it possible the traction control kicked in killing the throttle?

    I would agree with hesitation.

Are you lifted at all, could be rear drive shaft out of alignment, and excessive movement from the carrier bearing.

It sounds like the misfire/stumble issue

For a while I thought it might be the gas. 92 octane and up?

I went back to 87 and haven't noticed it again.

Who knows. Dealer can't replicate it.

I have the same problem with my truck I have a 2017 M/T to. If you shift quick and step on the gas to get on the freeway it hesitates a bit like it lugs then it will take off. Also with mine if I stay in say 3rd gear and step on the gas half way it will accelerate fine up to about 3500 RPM then almost stutter and take off like a bat out of hell. It will rocket off from say 4000rpm and up its very responsive.

It's just normal for this crappy 3.5L motor

When I get back from Europe in the fall this truck is gone.

    Might try another 2.7L M/T.

The guy I bought my expo rack from has a gorgeous early 16' inferno OR access cab, and barely drives it cause of all the issues. I believe he said the dealer won't perform the tranny tsb, or even check the fluid level because the say it is functioning as designed.

I've got a similarly wonky power delivery. It almost reminds me of my old STi with turbo lag.

I notice if you go WOT as if you're doing a pull it's not bad, but partial throttle in the higher RPM range brings some odd behavior. I've just accepted it as a quirk of the truck. Since I'm rarely going WOT, I just ignore it.
