6900rpm in ECT only sounds like a great combo. Basically two tunes you can run simultaneously

When we first entered the market, we weren't doing it to try to solve the numerous bugs and inconsistencies in the stock ecus code. We were working on tuning the camry when someone asked us to see if we can make more power out of the tacoma. Over time it evolved from a tune of making power to a tune dedicated to making this truck as best as possible. Fixing the transmission, fixing the limitations in the stock ecu that does not let you go full throttle, issues with misfires, stuttering, etc.

The overzealous complexity of the stock logic, paired with the absolute maddening levels of assembly level inconsistencies and redundancy in the ecu means that if we did our remain a tune setup to make more power we'd leave 90 percent of the potential untouched.

Luckily, the way the ecu calculates stuff in the line by line instructions (move byte, jump and register, nop, cmp...) allows us to exploit anything we wish. Only issue with that is testing takes time.
The further we dig, the more we can do.

Out of curiosity, are you looking at basic assembly code with these ECUs?

This forum wouldn’t even exist if Toyota would just do it right the first time. I hate the lag of takeoff in 1st, I hate having to downshift going up a hill at 7000 ft into second or even first. Do I really want to buy OV when it seems it has as many issues.
    Ee-shoes ? I don't got no steen-king ee-shoes with OVTune !! ? :smack:

It's really made my truck so much more....
    I'm a fussy SOB and Seriously, no "issues" here. ( ? )

Yeah it’s all assembly he has to try and decipher. It’s buried in here somewhere.

SOLD pending payment...thanks for all the effort @OVTune, you are the reason I didntd get rid if it in the first 6 months ...you have MASSIVELY improved this platform, but I finally accepted I was one of those who would just never be happy with this drivetrain in a truck.

Good luck to the rest of you and I hope Matt can continue to improve on the tune...it sure won't be for a lack of trying.

No worries, the Tundra is a great truck, and great platform. We have another truck we are gearing up to start R&D on this year... too. Not the Tundra though, I'm waiting to see what Toyota unveils in 2020.

@OVTune Speaking of Tundra. Any info on the Tundra throttle body mod mentioned before? Possible gains, etc.

    Nothing new on it yet.

One thing I can say is I don't recommend it for people who stay on stock intake, since it doesn't fit.
Anyways a lot of orders and tickets to get to.

I’ve got a cold air intake but I haven’t seen a whole lot on it being worth it on our trucks. I’m interested though.

I should have clarified...I went to a cherry Carfax 1-owner 85K mile, 25 service record, 2006 Tundra Double Cab TRD 4x4...(I had a 2005 version of this exact truck before the Tacoma). I test drove 2019 Tundras and 4runners...both drove great, but I just couldn't pay that much for such aging platforms with (to me) cheap feeling interiors . I will say though, that if my 2017 Tacoma, had the 4Runners motor, I would have never sold it (still would have OVTuned it though! :) ). I'm also waiting to see what Toyota does with the Tundra and even the Tacoma in 2-3 years. There have to be some hybrids coming I would believe, and I actually think the 3.5 with a supplemental hybrid system to provide torque where it's needed on demand, could make this a decent drivetrain platform for a mid-size truck.

Interested to hear what this other truck is. I was impressed enough with your work on the Tacoma that I'll continue to follow what @OVTune does...This Tundra is my 8th Toyota Truck, but I doubt it will be my last...

@OVTune , I'm off today if you need anything tested on the M/T side of the house.

    Cheers

IF it gets to the point of “production”, what kind of gains would you expect?

I have a Tundra TB sitting in my basement waiting for an appropriate version of the tune to come along.

Still working on ensuring no code issues with that upcoming patch. We will let hte MT guys know via MT thread when we are closer.

Unsure yet. Currently if you put the TB on without anything else, response might be marginally better than stock or even worse, as the throttle calibration in the ECU doesn't match.
As far as power, I don't really see it adding any.. because we haven't reached the limit of the stock throttle. Because the stock ECU (like TSB version especially) limits throttle angle.. versus previous ECU versions which do not. Which is something we are still sorting through code to convert back. Considering there is more "opening angle" to be had out of the stock one, there is still room to grow on the stock one.
    Hopefully that makes sense.

Anyways we should have all orders out for people with pending tracking, and working on tickets!

I will be out of office tomorrow (only tomorrow).
