Actually, let’s see what some recent guys say. I’m an old dongle user, and I know that’s the case for dongle. I’m thinking that’s the case for non-dongle, but would hope someone else can coraborate.

Dongle here, did the TSB myself with Techstream with no issues. The dongle is your license to use the tune, think of it as a password/key the tune software looks for, before allowing you to install tune files ;). ECU version only applies to tune version you will install

@OVTune I assume you will have dump tube versions of all the 2.0 tunes? Specifically a catless, single TQ map, FOB for the M/T...

So I've had OVTune for a couple of weeks and have not had a chance to test out gearlock.

How exactly is everyone using it? What are the benefits?

I think people should just start calling Toyota Customer service every time this tune crap pisses them off, I think that Toyota would get the idea that we're not happy with this shit tuning they are selling! They are educated beyond their intelligence on some matters, transmission tuning being one of them! If I would have known, about their problems with this, I would have bought a stick shift, they should be made to put warning labels on these damned things!

I hear ya.... but when I talk to people at the pumps or in the street who ask "How do you like your truck ?"
Their faces get all weird when I mention the shifting. It doesn't seem to bother the masses.
They tell me I must have got a lemon. which pisses me off more ! :angrygirl:"You should bring it back to the dealer dood"
For the most part it is their first Toyota and they are over the top in love with the thought of that.
They never heard of TW, OV or Gen II

I think the masses of people don’t pay attention to what their car is doing... like my wife she just hammers down in her v6 rav. Which I forgot how much better that car drove! Lol

I think that's exactly right. Alot of those people driving the 3rd Gen Taco dont really have an expectation so they're not let down by any means nor concerned with the way it shifts in the factory tune.

For 2.0 is S mode going to shift on demand or wait until the next shift point?

    S mode = gear lock
S mode + ECT = gear lock & tow tune

Any chance you’ll still develop the crawl control knob as a tune selector? If not, how about doing it as an paid option?

@RushT i think you missed the point (pun intended). I’m referring to the feature mentioned by Mat earlier (see below quote) in this thread. After reading the blog, I was curious if this is still going to be a feature for 2.0. He mentioned scrapping a few options like using crawl knob for tune selection, but the shift point mapping for s-mode was unmentioned.

Ah, perhaps I missed something. It seems like the latest gear lock tune shifts when I tell it to. I’ll test it in the way to work this am, going manually up gears aggressively at slower speeds.

I'm interested to see/learn how all of the changes may affect 4hi and 4lo. I wonder if the default D-mode will prevent the 4wd "jumpiness" some of us experienced with the more aggressive tunes thus far.
