@OVTune from visually seeing the wires i don't see any chewed up wires. I'd like to remove the intake manifold to have a better look, but the truck only has 29k miles and might still be under warranty. What do you suggest i do? And lets say a wire is chewed i don't think toyota will cover that, will they?

Toyota should, it's their soy wires that would be the fault (if this is the issue).
Try this. unplug the battery for 10 mins. Then try to start it. If it happens immediately again, either the injectors are dead or wiring is chewed.
I would not remove anything. Just see if you can visually locate any damage.

you should be able to slip your hand under the manifold without disconnecting anything and feel the wires.
or shine a flash light in there, in case a nest or something actually is up in there.

When this happened on my 2nd gen (they chewed the harness for the knock sensor under the intake manifold), it was not covered under warranty. I seem to remember there being a class action lawsuit about the soy based wiring but i'm not sure. The repair for mine was $1600, all of it labor. The harness was only like $100 if I recall correclty.

I could be wrong, but I thought the soy based wiring was 2016 3rd Gens only?

It was my understanding that it was only a 2nd gen problem, but I never really kept up with it.

Problem found. F***** rodents :frusty:. Thanks Mat for your help. I guess I’ll see if dealer covers it. Any suggestions on how to keep rodents away? I Read moth balls but not sure if anyone has tried that.

Little bastards! I have had some luck with Repels-all spray. Definitely apply while outside, this stuff smells absolutely rancid. Once it's dry it isn't too bad though.

Is there a way to upgrade ecu calibration from 04B03 to 04B04 without going to the dealer? And if I do have to go to the dealer, what’s the best approach to convince them it’s necessary?
IIRC, you could say something about an issue at altitude that can’t be replicated at the dealership, but I can’t remember the specifics.

I would check under your hood for rodent evidence as well. Similar thing happened to me and I thought it was the tune but found some chewed wires under the intake manifold.

EDIT. Posted before I saw you found the problem

Mine ended up being cam postion sensor wires. Toyota wanted $980 to fix 2 wires on one sensor. I found the plug and wires from Napa for $56 and did it myself the same day. VS insurance(deductible) and WEEKS while Toyota waited for parts.

OH and. Peppermint oil. I doused the underside of my engine cover in it. along with some on my control arms and haven't had a problem since.

Mat - You should setup PayPal or some way for customers to send you money when you help diagnose problems not related to your product. Just my .02 - this diagnosis was worth at least $20.

Here are the instructions for downloading and logging in to Techstream. Also would recommend searching "techstream" in this thread and start reading. I did mine last night and took about 3 hours to do everything.

I want to say this has been resolved and I can’t find it. P5 flash utility is grayed out and can’t open it. All windows firewall and defender and antivirus is off I’ve double checked and can’t remember what’s next to open flash utility. Thanks.
