expecting it not to shoot up to 2000 rpm. This only started happening since I flashed to 2.0 Beta from stock.
In S mode, 6th gear is running at 2000 rpm. In regular mode it ran at 1600 rpm. Why is the rpm higher in S mode? And, why did it not go back down to 1600 when I took it out of S mode?
If I push the ECT button the rpm does not jump up. Only when in S mode. BUT, when taking it out of S mode it stays at 2000 rpm while ECT is still on. Once I turn off ECT it goes back down to 1600. All of this is while it’s still in 6th gear

More than likely the torque converter was locked (or does it unlock in 6th?) either way nothing to worry about

What you are describing is completely normal for any of the current gearlock tunes. I know what is happening though I may not be stating it coherently but here goes:

The use of ECT turns on gearlock and changes the shift points. When you turn it on at highway speed in D your rpm won’t change (because it’s in gear 6 and happy) until you move the gear selector to S (4). When you then move the gear selector to S6 the trans may still be in 4 or 5 (depending on your speed) waiting for a higher rpm to upshift to 6. With mine it’ll stay in 5 (~2000) until I’m going 65 mph before it’ll upshift to 6.

When you change back to D with ECT on you have the same situation. Turning ECT off lowers the rpm shift point and allows the upshift to 6 so you’re back at 1600.

You can see all this happening with a Scangauge or other device to monitor the current gear.

2.0 final will change the way gearlock is implemented so it’s not tied to ECT.

wow, I actually understand what you said. That makes complete sense. Thanks!
I’m ok with the S mode holding gears until a certain rpm, for towing purposes but I def don’t like ECT mode holding gears until a certain rpm. Maybe that will change with final release.

ECT works that way (higher rpm shift points) in stock tuning so I don’t see any fundamental change in 2.0 final except that gearlock will only work in S mode.

That higher rpm is your friend. Embrace it! :) Engine/trans work better together.

higher rpm is def not your friend on a long interstate cruise.

RPM levels out when you get cruzin’ in 6. It just shifts better with ECT on.

I don't think spinning 2k down the interstate very high at all, heck even 2300 seems fine to me. but i'm running 5.29's so i'm already getting used to it.

What rpm are you looking for cruising in 6 @ 70 mph on level ground? 1600 to 2000 seems to be normal. What I was attempting to say is that if you don’t get enough speed it will upshift to 6 and bog. ECT mitigates the bog because it won’t upshift unless your rpm and speed is high enough. That’s why I believe that rpm is your friend.

Towing’s a different animal. With GL in S4 at 55-60 mph on level ground, rpm is 2600 - 2800. Can do that all day.

Our new server tower will be here today, should have it setup tomorrow, and new flash manager and files posted!
    Stay tuned.

Also for MT owners (as you know in the MT thread) we are working through DFCO right now

not yet, but we are working on adding in handheld option in flash manager, so you can select
    Legacy user (dongle)
    P5Flash user (flash kit)
    Handheld (handheld)
    and download tunes accordingly.

You won’t feel the benefits of the tune until you drive it more. Usually takes at least a tankful. If you just flashed it yesterday it hasn’t even begun to settle unless you’ve driven it a lot more miles.

Mat, could you elaborate more on “new flash manager and files” please? Or is this explained somewhere else already?
