Gear lock would be much more useful to me if it worked in Cruise Control

If you guys are expecting an email from us (reg key, vF Tuner Master key) and haven't seen it, please check your SPAM folder.
Gmail specifically (and maybe yahoo, I don't know) have been flagging our emails as spam recently.

Hi guys, I’m new to the OVtune world and I’m seriously considering purchasing it. I have a 2018 sport and want a little more power and more stable gear shifting with the option of the sport mode actually working almost like a manual transmission (which I’d buy if I could find any). My biggest thing is the gear shifting when I’m towing my trailer.
As far as I understand it (and I’m tech and mech inept so please correct me if I’m wrong), I need to purchase the vForest tuner software, the vF tune pack and some type of cable. Follow some basic installation instructions and watch a few videos on how to custom tune my Tacoma and call it a day.
    Does this sound about right?
Is the custom tuning difficult to understand or are there any “presets” that I could use?
I’ve tried reading through this post to figure it out on my own but there’s a lot of bitching and arguing that’s hard to sift through.

I reset when I put the first tune from the latest drop but did not reset when changing from the 35 tune to the 33 tune. It definitely settled a bit quicker than when I reset.

I been on 2 thx tunes. I've got 600 miles on each so far. I'm going to try the non-thx tune next and see the diff. I don't plan to reset anymore unless Mat says specifically to do so.

There's a VFTuner specific thread that can provide more insight into what it takes to custom tune, but by purchasing the tune pack, you should have access to the pre-made tunes provided by OVTune.

I haven't tried my hand at any custom tuning yet. I'm waiting for all of the OVTune pre-made tunes to come out first (there are still iterations with gearlock and/or "performance mode" via ECT yet to be released. Once I find my favorite pre-made tune, then I might jump into VFTuner to tweak it to my personal tastes.

For guys having issues after flashing and resetting LV and TV...

Once the flash is complete start the truck up for a few seconds, turn it off, turn ignition ON and reset the LV and TV. This is what i normally do, but for some reason after flashing the latest 2.0 i immediately reset LV and TV right after flashing without turning the truck on for a few seconds first, then off, then ignition on, then do the reset. The result was the truck 1) would not start on the first try (it did start after the second try. This startup failure happened only once and right after the flash). 2) The truck drove like crap for 500 miles, shifting was crap, lugging, feeling of no power even at 3k+ rpm 3) It developed a jumpy idle.

I decided to wait until after 500 miles on it to try flashing again. This time I did it correctly as mentioned about. The result.... f'ing awesome. Truck drives great now! I have maybe 150 miles on it so far. Will report back after 500.

Im a 2016 OR, on 04B04 reg stock thx 33.

    Question
I have a coworker who has the non- VF Tuner program with cable. My question is can I use his cable and his laptop to tune my truck? What would I need to buy to be able to do this. His truck runs so good on the new 2.0 tune.

Which version are you running? The most recent 2.0 Final versions don't have gear lock enabled. I am running on the previous 2.0 Final version for 04B04 that did have GL (and that caused the startup pause) and it works just fine with cruise control unless I hit a really steep hill where the truck can't hold the hill locked in 6th. When the truck slows down too far below the set speed, it kicks the CC off. Otherwise it works just fine.
