IIRC throttle position is set to zero when using cruise control, that is why gear lock doesn't work or rather stay locked when using CC and will downshift. CC uses sperate inputs than driving without.

Yeah, it just wants to accelerate too quickly.

I noticed in TechStream there was a parameter for CC acceleration requested (or something to that effect). So, there should be a way to lower the max requested acceleration... hopefully Mat can find it.

if you are talking about the cruise control accel / decel buttons for increasing and decreasing speed, yes I can find that relatively easily.

if it's for dynamic cruise control, I'd have to dig deeper. Dynamic cruise control kind of has it's own AI.

It doesn’t do this on 19770 (2.0 beta). Except on very steep hills/overpasses. With CC set on 70, it rides at about 1800rpms then bumps up to 2000rpms when going up the incline, then drops right back to 1800rpms. THIS is the reason that I went back to 19770. On the 2.0 final, it would downshift and go to 3000-3500 rpms on inclines.

I guess it must be tied to that as well... I think it was in m/s^2.

If we could lower the CC max requested accel it wouldn't have to downshift to 4th or even 3rd so often on inclines.

    Edit: "wouldn't"

    to clarify,
are you refering to you increasing the speed, or when the ECU increases throttle to maintain speed?

I would imagine it would be the same parameter.

    While CC engaged...
e.g. when you start an incline the truck loses speed; tries to accelerate; downshifts; begins to accelerate back to set speed; but, tries to accelerate too quickly; downshifts to 4th unnecessarily... if was just less aggressive it wouldn't have to drop another gear.

I guess the same thing can happen if you bump up the CC setting... it accelerates too aggressively.

so basically make cruise control so it doesn’t think it needs to be immediately at the set speed.

    for example
    Cruise set to 60
Truck slows down to 59 then 58. Then downshifts and revs way up to get back to 60. Overshoots 60 then slows back down
    Repeat

where if it would just be content being “around” 60 like 57-62 it would be fine. Or if say it had 10 seconds to get back to speed instead of trying to do it in 1

Basically it tries to floor it to get to the set speed.

also that’s one reasons i got rid of my auto back in 2017 lol

Yeah, I think so many people would appreciate mellowing out the CC in this way.

While I'm here... I first tuned about 6 weeks ago and just got back from a 30 day road trip (~7700 miles). I must say, I am disappointed in the large torque/hp holes that still remain between gears. For example, say I'm climbing a steep grade at elevation in 4th gear turning ~2500 rpm at 60 mph generating up to 45 hp (according to scangauge). Maybe I start to lose mph; I ease down the accelerator; 41 hp, 42, 43, 44; then, bam 85 hp in 3rd gear... and I accelerate; I ease up; back to 4th and ~40 hp; decel; and the cycle repeats. That's a huge gap. Why? Can I fix it in vFT?

Oh man, it’s starting. Some guys on the local Facebook group selling the base VFTuner file for $250-$350 each. Luckily caught one of my friends who was going to do it before they paid anything.

If you are an AT the tunes are not available yet. The only ones we have in Vf tuner are the stock ones.
MT guys have their tunes. Also important to know whether your truck is O4A61 or 04A60.

You are looking for the Calibration ID, do you have (or know someone) that has a ODBII code reader?

Most likely you are 04A60 unless you went to the dealer and had the TSB done

If they did it. I've come across a number of trucks whose owners told me they'd had the TSB done at the dealer and then when I identified their ECU, i discovered they'd been lied to

Have the people that complain (rightfully so) own other Toyota’s? I own and have owned many different models and every single Toyota cruise control always freaks out on the hills when it looses speed.

I would just wait until supposedly sometime in Sept. when we get all the tunes in Vf tuner and then we can find someone close to you with the same calibration who can tune yours for a nominal fee.Until then I would try to get the tsb done at your dealer that changes your calibration to 04A61.Someone here can probably get you the link to that tsb. Since you are law enforcement the dealer shouldn’t hassle you to install it.Or when it comes time we can find someone with techstream to do both.
I have an ‘18 too but I’m a good distance from you.
