I get that on a 2 mile trip to the store. Are your trips super short? What’s your tank average?

That's my tank average, with about 1/2 tank. Yes, they've been short this week. Still, I used to get 17 doing the same travel routine.

I got another 200 miles on b04 91 octane, stock limited. I had a 15+ mph cross wind that I know I'd have been in 5th the entire time at 70 mph, 1.05 I was in 6th and even pulled most hills in 6th. Yay! More useable on the highway, just as OV said. I avg 19.7 mpg (wind was negligible on return trip home). (Winter blend gas too). Nice work Mat. No issue with 4th hanging for me.

Man, I wish it was something simple. It was up to temp today. I guess I'll pay attention to that.

Is the truck nose-high? After I switched from Icon to Fox, I spent a few weeks with way too much preload on the front coilovers and was up 3.25” in the front and 1.5” in the rear. I thought they’d settle - they never did. Even though it looked level “see picture” I reduced the preload to get 2” up front.
I made weekly trips of 300 miles from Maine to Rhode Island for the better part of a year averaging 18.2 mpg. During the weeks I was nose-high, I logged 14.2 routinely and could feel a lot more drag. Just a thought.

I'm running like 3.75" with a slight rake, back is like 1/2" taller.

I agree it’s sometimes easy to overlook some deficiencies, but if you’re cross shopping the Tacoma with a 2500HD, one of them definitely isn’t for you.

Your mileage decrease followed the addition of a shell right? Easy experiment, drop the front 3/4” for a week. +3.75 is going to cause you a lot of problems in the long run anyway: ball joints, steering gear, etc.

The ONLY thing that changed was the shell and 1.04 -> 1.04r. I honestly thought the shell would give better mpg, not worse. I'm waiting to see what 1.05 yields. I never had a problem with the suspension before. My back is like .5" taller than the rear now.

I'm just going to throw this out there, not that your issue has to do with this at all, I don't have any idea there, but:

Only make one change at a time. Measure it's impact, and set a new baseline. If you do more than one thing at a time and something goes wrong, you don't know what to troubleshoot.

This applies to just about everything in life, imo.

    Merry Christmas all!

It should be easy enough to test - just reflash to 1.04 for a tank and see if mileage improves.

Yeah, both true. We're so close to 1.05 i'm just gonna wait. After that I'll start trouble shooting.
    MERRY CHRISTMAS
