This is what I’ve done since 1.03. I’ve always run the 87 tune and I run 91 fuel when I can.

Even though it is a little way out of my way here, I always run Costco 92.

Ok question. What is the definition of "tip-in"? I have tried to Google it and didn't get anything good back, other than how to properly tip waiters in deifferent parts of the world. I'm pretty sure it has to do with throttle response, and the delay between hitting the gas, and the vehicle actually beginning to accelerate. But that is as far as I got. Can someone please give me a good description of what "tip-in" means. Is there a "tip-out"?

    Edit: ^Got me

Can anyone else attest to this? Running the 91 tune now. If it is not worth the extra money per gallon I will switch back.

Then I feel like I need way more than what 1.03 87 is giving me for better downshifts.

How do we get v5 anyway. I haven't updated anything since v4. I recently flashed back to 87 trying to get rid of the nasty bump feeling, but it's still there. Any relief with v5?

Tip in is the initial application of throttle from a closed throttle

For tune version 1.04, I tried both 87 and 91 tune. 91 was the clear winner for me.

91 octane gas with 87 tune made the truck smoother, while cruising and during idle. Acceleration seems more "effortless".

91 octane gas with 91 tune had all the benefits I mentioned above, with the bonus of noticeable power gain. So highway driving, there was less downshift, truck just seem lighter on its feet.

I have not tried 1.05 87 tune, so can't speak for that, but I imagine same result as 1.04.

If there is one thing we can all agree on, it is that these trucks are unique, each have their nuances and quirkiness, so you may not yield same results as me.

If you want to know how your truck perform with the 87 tune, only way to know for sure is to flash the tune, drive it for few hundred miles and report your experience. It only costs few minutes of your time to flash the 87 tune.

Are you running 87 octane or 91 on the 1.05 87 tune? I ran 87 octane on 1.04 87 tune and performance and mileage were fine, even with towing. Switch to 91 octane on the 1.04 87 tune preparing for 1.05 release. Running 91 octane on 1.05 91 tune now. Going to flash 1.05 87 tune on the remainder of the tank and top off with 87 octane and see what happens. Really think I will continue to run a blend of 87 and 91 in the tank on the 1.05 87 tune.

currently running the remaining 92 octane on the 87 tune. will go to 89 octane next refill. I didn't like the 91 tune, I was giving way too much gas pedal to keep up in traffic. not experiencing this with 87

Flashed to 1.05/87 this morning after reading all of this. Haven’t driven far but seems a little more responsive so far. Still have 91 in the tank. Will have to drive a lot more to tell for sure.Running 91 tune originally.

interesting. I had no issues with 1.04 87 tune on 87 or 91 octane. 1.05 91 tune on 91 octane has a flat spot from 2>3. Thought I would try 1.05 87 tune and see if it goes away - seems like some had found this to be the solution. Worth a try rather than bug Mat. Not even sure if I will go with the 4.88 tune when it comes - never had any issue with the stock 3.91 tune and I sure don't want the shifting to occur any sooner in the rpm range.

flashing 87 as we speak. I imagine that with my pinging issues that the ECU is pulling timing pretty significantly so I'm hopeful that the 87 tune will give me better performance than the 91 tune I'm on now

Yah I experienced some weird shift with the 91 tune as well and idle surges. When I first flashed I even caught myself saying, there is no way this new fancy tune is supposed to drive like this. Last night flashed 87 and was like, “Wow! That’s more like it”
