So, with the new dongles setup do you still get anything by snail mail or does an email with "key file" eventually show up?

How long has this been taking?

After you purchase the tune from OVTune you will install his software pack/drivers and get your system ID, you will email him the system ID and he will send you a file to add to your computers registry. then connect the Tactrix cable and identify your ECU and email him this info. He will then send you the tune files and you can flash the truck. Mat got back to me within a few hours each time. so to answer your question, the only thing you will get in the mail is the Openport 2.0 cable from Tactrix.

How long does it usually take to get the registry file amd tune files sent?

I feel like a kid on Christmas Eve.

FWIW I’ve flashed back to stock tune to diagnose an unrelated issue and I can confirm with complete scientific confidence that the stock tune in these trucks is a horrific, mind blowing abomination. How in the actual fuck Toyota shipped, and continues to ship, these trucks with this completely fixable issue is beyond my capacity to fathom. Stock tune is many bad things, but most concerning of them is that it creates a completely unpredictable throttle response that is downright unsafe in an urban environment. If you can’t count on a response from the engine when you press the skinny pedal, you’re putting yourself and those on the road with you in danger trying to merge, etc.

I had a neck issue several weeks ago just before I installed 1.04. I’m pretty much convinced now that it was caused directly by the stock tunes wildly predictable response.

If you’re on the fence about the tune I’d say buy it now before the price goes up, cause it’s worth every penny and then some.

Can’t WAIT to get my issue (unrelated) sorted by dealer so I can get back to 1.04.

Damn lucky @OVTune went to work on these trucks.

We were in our parts delivery truck yesterday...(I work in parts at a Toyota dealership in Canada). Albeit this is a 4 cylinder auto truck, but man... We were almost in an accident due to the stupid throttle response. Our parts driver swore at the truck and said it does it all the time.

I can totally see that. I swear this tune gives you so much more throttle control and low rpm power compared to the stock tune. Really makes you wonder what the hell Toyota was thinking.

100% agree. FURTHERMORE, how can all that erratic shifting and over-revving be good for the longevity of the motor? My thoughts; it can't. My only apprehension towards a tune was I was concerned about warranty/reliability issues. Now that I'm tuned, I'd be more concerned about leaving it stock.

I originally bought the tune because the truck was unsafe to drive..
At a stop light one day I saw van quickly approaching and knew it couldn't stop in time.
I slammed the pedal to the floor and nothing happened for what seemed like an eternity when it finally moved forward and I was able to turn right just getting out of the way when the van with his brakes fully locked skidded through were I was stopped and halfway into the intersection.
He would have rear ended me and destroyed my truck and probably injured me as well.
I knew then this truck was not safe.
Thank god for the tune because that problem no longer exists and everything else is just a huge bonus...
I've said it before and I'll say it again... thank you Mat...!!!

Matt posted a picture sometime back going into details about the torque converter. Basicly we cant get any usable power until 2k rpms if i read it correctly.

I cannot stress enough how much more functional this truck is at stop and go, city-type driving now. I used to have to wait significant amount of time to pull out/merge into stoplight traffic. Now the truck just goes. No more hesitation.

Another encouraging and positive post. Thanks for that !
I don't live in the city and hate driving in commuter traffic.
I'm not a race driver and rarely exceed speed limits, I like to putt along country roads, coastline twisties and enjoy the view.
I never "mash the pedal" for my ego.
That said, I always want to be in the correct gear with plenty of get up n' go on tap for when I want/need it.
Sounds like the tune will make me feel better about this truck..... been hitting the dealers lately for alternatives but want to enjoy my little Taco.... Guess I got to pony up for the "fix" !
