...I have a question about one of the options for the OR listed in this details-list.....

...One of the options is the 'Predator tube-step'.....now I get that the OR is probably jacked-up higher than any of the other versions by the simple fact that it is specifically designed for OR....

...So, that being the case, wouldn't a set of sliders make more sense?

...My reasoning here is from limited knowledge..so I'm sure some kind soul on this forum will be more than happy to correct me if I speak un-truth....;).....but from what I understand....

...a step is just that....sumthin to help ya get up into the cab without ripping your crotch in half...( Not sumthin on My bucket-list! )....and so it provides little protection from large rocks/boulders along a trail....

...Whereas sliders are much stronger....and will support the truck if ya get into a bind on a trail and a boulder risks crushing your door-sill once your front tire goes over it....

...Now.....assuming the above is somewhat accurate....wouldn't it make sense to also offer sliders as an option on an OR Tacoma?........

...What are your thoughts on this, por favor?................Cheers!.........

At this price, we can get a huge group buy organized.

It doesn't ride any higher than any other model. All models in the 3rd gen, including the 4x2, have the same suspension height and overall tire diameter. The OR has various traction control features that make it a better off road vehicle.

You are right that sliders do make more sense than tube steps for an off road vehicle. You are also correct that these steps are not designed to support the weight of the truck. Even though it is an off road tuned vehicle plenty of people still need them for daily driving. They might be short, or have a short partner, or have small kids that need to get in and out, or any number of other mobility issues. That convenience of a factory step is worth sacrificing clearance and rocker panel protection. And finally, some folks may just dig the look.

As to why sliders are not offered as an OEM accessory; I suspect it has a lot to do with not wanting to engineer them for crash testing. Sliders basically become extensions of the frame and who know how that will change crumple zones and all that during a collision. The return on investment probably isn't there, especially because there are a ton of aftermarket slider makers out there.

    ...OK....that makes sense...Thanks!......

..Guess the next question is...if ya do occasionally go off-road on rough trails/fire-roads, etc...and do Not actually do any Serious scrambling....in other words....to use your truck to get to scenic areas or remote camping....do steps generally get in the way...or get damaged....or is the good clearance make it a non-issue?....

Gesus another one of these stupid threads with people posting up their non new info repeat order sheets, specs. Im beginning to think the 3rd gen section is filled with people who can't read/understand the search tool or just genuine stupid people or perhaps both.

It depends on the road and the driver. Mostly no problem. I can think of a few times when I may have screwed them up if I had them on my Tundra ... 'scenic roads' got a little more 'scenic' than anticipated. It happens. My friends Tundra ('05) that I am borrowing right now has them - his steps have some scrapes on the outside edge and bottoms - he goes many of the same places I do but also lives on 5 acres at the end of a dirt road - his property is covered in all kinds of rocks in his fields - other than scratches this seem no worse for the wear. He put them on aftermarket b/c he has 2 little kids and got sick of having to help them up especially in the snow and he says these are excellent for when we have snow ... and we get lots of it here. I have to climb in and out most days wearing office clothes and have come to like them a lot.

Personally, based on using the on his truck for the last few weeks I am probably going to take this option for both the looks and the utility. If they get in the way, I beat the shit out of them, or dislike them I will take them off and if they are in decent shape sell them.

...OK....another excellent answer...Thanks, tpak!.........so that leaves one final question, I guess?.....( hopefully? )....o_O

...Are the Predator tube-steps offered as a option for the 2016s a good quality item?...since we don't have prices at this point, it is impossible to tell if the stealership will be competitive to after-market slap 'em on yourself?

...So all I am askin is are these decent...or are there other brands out there that might be better for the dollars?

    ...a quick google-search came up with $454.02

    https://trdparts4u.toyotaofdallas.com/scripts/prodList.asp?idCategory=26

...and it looks like the 'Predator' style is not a solid tube....but smaller tube with two protruding steps...which seems to me would be more likely to catch on rocks and bushes, etc....then the solid tube?

...Those of youz what got 'em....what are your thoughts?...........Cheers!............

Steps are not sliders and sliders will never come stock on a Toyota.

Just fab up some boat sides with rockers and you won't have any problems

Those are the ones I am talking about and would get on my '16. As noted, they aren't OR style slides. As for price the dealer I am working with said they can get them factory or aftermarket and would price match in their parts department to the same brand on-line with shipping. Work your dealer hard on price. There is definitely maneuvering room on these trucks even thought they are going to be hot.
