Super curious as well. Just got my trd cai installed, now hunting for a good exhaust that isn't obnoxious cruising but a little more aggressive. Is the y pipe just for a reroute or is it meant to add power as well? I know it says added power but what's different about it to do so. Would love to see what the two together does.

    for the y pipe,
"The routing of it takes it out from under the transfer case for better ground clearance."

i am really interested in this. anybody got pics?
also does this remove the cats?

Guys this will most likely remove the cats as it's for performance

I doubt you'll get much performance from removing cats on an na vehicle.

I emailed them to as what it actually gets rid of.

this would be nice as ground clearance mod more so than a performance mod.

Wait... So where are the resanotors in the parts picture? Because the Y-pipe is part #10, which would be all this replaces, correct? Attaches to cats at the seals... Are resanotors built into the Y-pipe? Or does the URD start at the manifolds, and take it from there, in which case it would have to include some kind of cat converter or leave them out altogether, which wouldn't pass emissions anywhere....

URD's description says it has a re-route for better clearence, but also an "improved design" for better flow and power. Maybe someone who had one on their second gen can chime in... My first Tacoma, so what do I know.

    **Edit**
Please do keep us updated with URD's official answer to the email. Was looking at getting this done in a couple weeks, but if all it really is, is just a ground clearance mod, then I might rethink the $500 expense, as in Texas I'm more concerned about mud than rocks but if it does provide better flow, may be worth it.

I'll post as soon as they reply.

I just want it for ground clearance. I've smacked that stupid pipe so many times. I was thinking of just going to an exhaust place and having them redo it. But it would be better if someone that knows what they are doing (like urd) does the reroute.

    Bit more insight:

Webpage for the new 3rd gen Y-pipe says, "it's like the other URD Y-pipes."

Well the webpage for the 2nd gen Tacoma "Competition" Y-pipe (which is the only 2nd gen Y-pipe I can find that URD makes) says:

"The URD Competition Y Pipe was designed for off road competition and racing events. For that reason it does eliminate the rear catalytic converters for maximum performance. The URD Competition Y Pipe is not for on road use and is absolutely not emissions legal anywhere on public roads and it likley never will be.

The URD Competition Y Pipe does include ports for the rear O2 sensors. It will not cause a check engine light from elimination of the rear catalytic converters."

If the knew 3rd gen versions also eliminate the cats, then I can definitely see it being a performance improvement... Would be alot less restrictive. But I would so never pass a inspection in Houston area, and since we moved to the one sticker thing, I would never be able to get a new registration without a inspection pass... I'm still thinking about it though. :burnrubber:

It's really easy to go back to stock for inspection you know.

That sucks. Nothing worse than na with no cats. Turbo 100%. I feel like the Tacoma is going to be LOUD and sound like crap with no cats.

In the features section it says. "bungs provided for stock rear 02 sensor" What does that mean? Maybe there's a place to put the 02 sensor but still eliminate CAT? I guess we'll just have to wait for a response from URD

Probably just means that it provides ports for the stock rear O2 sensors, just like the 2 gen Y-pipe... So your computer won't be throwing error codes the whole time.
