Same frame so probably the same as 2nd gen.

Wow, the 2nd gen looks pretty dated with side to side comparison.

I'm not sure if they did this on 2nd gens but the 3rd gens have thick plastic paint protectors going along the bottom of the cab/bed to protect from rocks. Might just be an option too, I'm not sure but I definitely saw this on someone's review thread.

EDIT: tomwil beat me to it back on the 2nd page.. thats what I get for not catching up in the thread before posting a reply.

After looking more carefully, I think that the tailgate also looks much better on the new ones. Instead of a flat piece of steel, the extra indentation adds a certain flair and style to it.

Looks-wise, the '16 is not my cuppa tea. I wouldn't turn one down, but I bought a '15. Personally, I prefer the looks/style of the '04...

is it me or there isn't a 4x4 badge in the tail gate? I probably would take it off and the v6 anyways, but that's weird it doesn't have the badge in the rear.

It has been speculated that if the truck has a TRD 4X4 sticker on the side, it won't have the chrome 4x4 badge on the tailgate. Thus meaning 4x4 SR5's and 4x4 Limiteds are the only ones that will have the chrome 4x4 badge on the back.

The gen 2 didn't have chrome 4x4 on the tailgate either or did I miss something?

Looks like Fred Flintstone's car sitting next to George Jetson's.

    The '16 looks current.

Oh, and I LOVE the tailgate spoiler!

Thanks for posting these. They both look like trucks that will do the job...

Personally I don't like the look of any of the new trucks from any manufacturer, dislike the styling trends (some of which are driven more by regulation than style choices to be honest). Feel the same here with the Tacoma, prefer the 2nd gen look but I'd be happy with a 3rd gen if that was what I had to buy. But that's just my personal opinion and to me aesthetics are very low on the list.

From a functional standpoint I'm glad the footprints of the 3rd gen are quite similar to the 2nd gen - wouldn't want things to get any bigger.

Good comment on the vents, I do dislike the vents on the 2nd gen - way too constrained in pointing angles - especially the one to the right of the drivers side. I can't point that one back at my daughter at max without freezing off my right arm.

A bit hard to tell from the photos, but it looks like the 2016 is pulled forward just a bit compared to the 2015 and that may be over emphasizing the long nose on the 2016. I guess I'll just be extra careful not to run down pedestrians in my 2015 ;)

Again, thanks for posting the comparison!

Lots more pic's in the link in my sig. The updated look inside and out is what fiannly swayed me to upgrade from a 1st gen.

We now know why they chose this bed height. Using the carry over cab, they couldn't have gone any higher without intersecting the rear window. Glad they made bed deeper though. Old bed was too shallow. Even an inch is a lot when you have taller items in the back.

Is the suspension any different? For the sake of how quick I can slap an Icon package, I hope not!!

Not gonna lie, those new TRD off roads are sick. Not a huge fan of the sports or base models, but the offroads... mmmmmm:jerkoff:

Spent 20min on my back on the dealership floor under a 2016. The frame, suspension, and body substructure are virtually identical. Many aftermarket suspensions, skids and other goodies will undoubtedly be available for these trucks very soon.
